As far as I know, if you sign a contract through an office of education they will all be the same.

The only other perk that you might want to look for would be a school where you would have the chance to work extra hours. I get to teach some after school classes at my elementary school and it adds a fair bit to my paycheck.

You are guaranteed to get paid and get benefits. You get long vacations.

Cons: you have to be at school 8 hours a day
just as disorganized and frustrating as a hakwon
students are retarded compared to hakwon kids
'special training'
low salary
two words: Engleeshee campuh
illegal teachers (teachers without visas or hakwon teachers doing privates make twice as much; chances are you won't have time for privates with an 8-hour a day public school job) will make your salary look like minimum wage
'ceremonies'
dress code
horrible curriculum
HUGE class sizes of miscreants and special needs kids (including brain stems)

public school you should be teaching around 20hrs a week. 9-5 mon-fri.
all public holidays off.
about 5 weeks vacation a year
money wise will depend but starting rates can be as low as 1.9 mil, they usually have a pay scale that you can see where youd be depending on experience and qualifications - avg rate id say would be around 2.2m
class size can range from 15-40 depending on school size and location.

Also the possibility youll be working multiple schools.

uhhh.... even though they are illegal, a public school isnt open at night, thus private lessons are attainable... theoretically.

though you must be one of the neo-alcoholic types who prefer the hagwon, allowing the cessation of chronic substance dependence and its symptoms during the night. and your abusive attitude toward students who need help seem to reinforce that belief.

Built-in privates.

This is something that often goes unspoken. Korean teachers generally have kids, and if the teachers like you, you may soon find yourself earning an extra chunk on the side.

My co-teacher pulled me aside last year and said that if any of the other teachers ask for private lessons then I am to turn them down. There was no way I was going to take a chance and teach them because as soon as one other teacher found out, everyone would know

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't Korean teachers and their kids BOTH have 'built-in privates'??? Laughing

I'm teaching at middle school today that has 21 students. 7 per grade. It's in the mountains, and a 25km scooter ride from my apartment.

There is alot of free time during the day in PSs to do lesson plans and to time waste on the internet.
