I think the transcripts that I just turned in to immigration might have been too old. But this will be my second E2 so, really, why do these things need to be turned in again at all?
If I got an E2 once, isnt it clear that I had everything I needed.
Does immigration really not keep anything we give them?
I'd find that hard to believe. |

They keep the stuff, they just can't be bothered to find it. I've turned in the same set of documents 5 more times since I arrived in '94. It's only because of inefficiency.
We should be able to send in our documents one time to one central authority that checks them one time, issues an ID and that's the end of it. This reform will happen within one month of the time I retire. I know it. |

Once a degree is verified by the Korean Council for University Education I think that's on record and you don't have to produce it again. And as long as you don't leave the country your original CRC is fine isn't it?
I don't actually know... |

Ok, so let me get this straight...
Our degrees are verified by an outside source? So... why do we have to produce them in the first place? Transcripts and diplomas take time to send in the mail. Why don't we just give our personal info and then whoever needs to verify all this does what they need to do?
Now that I think about it, I think they wanted my diploma this time as well. |

because due to privacy acts there is no way my university would admit that I exist let alone went there. Not sure how it works in other countries but thats what it is like in NZ |

Sorry, degrees can be verified by KCUE but aren't necessarily. In fact, if they're sent to Korea they're probably just passed to immigration. But, if they are verified by this organisation (put on their database), immigration can subsequently just check on the database (no need to reproduce it after that one time).
I believe this is a recent development.
Again, I don't actually know for sure. |

That's a rather unkind depiction. Immy have always served me well here in Korea...hats off to them! |

Immi's job is to keep us out, not keep us in.
Think about it. |

The University of California (all branches) allows online verification of all degrees. Not transcripts, but degrees. |

Immigration has a number of my documents scanned on their computer and have told me I no longer need submit them. They apparently do not have descriptive filenames nor Korean labels, but they are on there. I've seen them and had to explain to the immigration agent what each one was. |

When you can answer any question starting with "why" you will be able to bend spoons just by focusing on them.
Okay, that's an exaggeration- there are many cultural customs and legal procedures with reasons behind them. But if there is a reason for this one, I have yet to hear what it is.
The part I like best is how we have to submit our transcripts repeatedly but our criminal background checks only once. Shouldn't it be the opposite? After all, I may become a criminal in the future, but I'll always have my BA. |
