Okay, first off I know I am late for orientation... Was supposed to start on the 25th of August but could not get there due to Visa delays...

Now my recruiter tells me that the SMOE has reached their limit for flights they will pre-pay, and that teachers are having to pay their own way and be re-imbursed when they arrive... Am I being jerked around or is this legit?

I'd suggest calling SMOE directly.

SMOE is a major employer and, despite orginizational quirks that are common to the korean teaching experience, can generally be trusted to pay up.

Your start date on your contract will probably be adjusted when you arrive and you may need to attend some sort of orientation later in the year but i wouldnt worry about getting reimbursed.

They'll pay up. I came to Korea on my own and got a job with SMOE later and even then they paid for my flight here. Don't sweat it.

Yes, they will, but when? It's unprofessional to leave teachers expecting prepaid flights then make them come up with $2000 USD on the spot.

I would expect to get paid by SMOE within the first month at the latest. If your concerned just give one of the SMOE coordinators a call and talk it over with them. If you need a number, I can probably find one in one of these books I got during orientation.

PM me if you need it.

IF I am not mistaken, contractually, they are required to provide the inbound reimbursement within 14 days of starting work at the school.

The same is true for the settlement allowance.
