How does one go about checking that pension contributions are actually being paid, and not just being syphoned off into a private slush-fund.
Thanks, and sorry if it's been asked already.

| Go to the local Pension Office and check your account. |

I wouldn't get a Korean teacher to check it out for you. What if your boss is sketching about with your pension? The last thing you need is a Korean teacher at your school talking to your boss about you inquiring about your pension. That would create an ugly picture for sure. To them, you really aren't supposed to be checking it out. But you're well within your right to do so regardless of what they think.
Look up the Korean NPS on google. Also, like another person here says, take your ARC. Also take your contract (if it makes any mention of the pension and what the percentage of your contribution is) in case the contributions on your boss's behalf and what the contract states don't match. |

Don't do this. A Korean teacher will simply run into the office and tell his hagwon master that you are asking too many questions. |

Have you had experiences where a Korean teacher has told your "hagwon master" after you started asking questions about pension contributions? |

I have. I asked my coworker last year if she could help me in finding the NPS office, this was before I asked people on this site. I should have said f her and do it myself. She wanted to know why I wanted to inquire about my pension. I told her because I wanted to know how much money I had accrued. She said she would find out and then come back to me.
A week later, my boss sits me down and tells me that he is paying my pension and that I shouldn't worry, and that I am not supposed to go to the NPS, that it is his job, not mine. He then handed me 50,000 won, with a fake smile. Gee, I wonder who brought it to his attention.
A few months later I found out from the pension office, thanks to the help of people on this board, I was able to find it, and they showed me what I had in my account. It was enough to indicate that he wasn't in fact making the full contribution, just shy of half of it. I asked him why, he fired me. I filed a dispute with him through the NPS and the labor board and he was busted.
Don't even think of asking your Korean coworkers about where the local pension office is. Find it through a google search and go there yourself in person. Bring your ARC and your contract, in case your boss is messing around with YOUR money. |
