In China livestock feed producers added poisonous melanine to increase the bulk of animal feed. It was also added to pet food and killed thousands of pets in the US.
The feed was also imported into and used in Korea.

Now, it has been detected in baby milk formula and has killed six babies so far and hospitalized thousands.
"The number of infants poisoned had soared to 6244, including 158 with acute kidney failure."

The cause of the baby deaths was kept quiet and away from the public until after the Olympics. Now it is hitting the fan.

Here are some links:
Or, just Google 'Melanine.'

BTW: Melanine was also detected in exported ice creams from China. There are many foods from China or made with ingredients direct from China on the shelves here in Korea. Watch what you eat.

I think it's not just a Chinese thing - many people associated with the slaughterhouse industry tend to lack respect for life in general.

Right. Same goes for all those lead-tainted Sesame Street figures, it's not just a Chinese thing. Many people associated with the plush toy industry tend to be cigar-smoking baby killers.

Multinational companies have been pushing unnecessary formula for years, despite the knowledge that it kills babies. You can't really single China out when it comes to disregard for health and safety in pursuit of profit.

True. Look at the American auto industry. They produce a product responsible for the deaths of over 40,000 people, including many infants and children, annually, not to mention all of us who are poisoned by theri toxic emissions.

Can melanine be found on product labels?

How would you say this in Korean?

Yeah, the products don't label exactly the ingredients. For example if it is some sort of flour it will show that but not what is in the flour.
I look for 수입 and 중국, if those two go together then I don't buy.
Have a look, you'll find a heck of a lot comes from there.
