I thought she spoke reasonably about that.
The question that was neither asked nor answered was: What should the law be for those situations?
That's the REAL question. |

reasonable? what is reasonable about sitting down with some woman carrying a rape zygote and even entertaining the idea that you encourage her to carry it to term?
if there is a real question, palin doesn't know how to answer it. |

She said she would councel the person to carry the child to term. You wouldn't do it. I wouldn't do it. But someone else might. Lord knows it's been done before.
The real question is: Would Palin insist that other people accept her position? That was not made clear in the clip provided.
I'm one of those odd people that think that many questions in life are not black and white. A whole lotta gray where I live. |

that shows a bias that goes beyond the realm of public office. |

maybe i should word it in that the moron has every right to state her opinion - i've met tons who do - but to let a faith-centered definition of life affect a head of state's opinion of a situation in which someone has been forced into something they did not choose... ridiculous.
does a person holding public office have the right to go to someone and say "hey, sorry about that sexual predator tearing your vagina to shreds and then impregnating you. but i really think you need to bear this child."?
no.
and do you think that - should she be granted any sort of political power - she won't inflict that on people? her record shows she's not too excited about the idea of people disagreeing with her. |

Notice that she also kind of avoided the question and was a bit evasive. I believe her final answer was something along the lines of "I would never send a person who had an abortion to jail." Without thinking someone might think she was against making abortions illegal, but if they were made illegal it would be the doctors who would face prosecution and not the recipients, so she's really not saying that she wouldn't change the laws. |

Well, she said, as newteacher pointed out, that she wouldn't send people to jail.
I entirely agree with you that the woman is unqualified for the position she is seeking. However, the clip you provided does not support your opposition, in my opinion. |

As I said, that's not exactly what Palin stated. She said she would not send anyone to jail "for having had an abortion". Says nothing about sending someone to jail for giving an abortion. It's not the patients who will be prosecuted if the laws changes, it's the doctors. |

Which has always been one of the major inconsistencies of the anti-abortion movement. If a woman conspired with her doctor to kill her already-born baby, we'd all agree that both the woman and the doctor should be charged with murder. The anti-abortionists want to say that a fetus is exactly the same as a born infant, except that they(usually) don't want the mother to face charges should she choose to have an abortion. |

i think it does - dumb people shouldn't be put in a position where people can vote for them. maybe i'm still a childish idealist in that regard. |
