It's very cold today and my public school is not turning on the heat. I have asked three times and made faces but they are not even making an excuse. Just we are not turning on the heat is what they say. Yesterday I taught at my other school and we had heat so wtf is up with this school.

The way a lot of places work (and your place seems to according to your post), either the whole school has heat or nobody does. So yeah, it is cold, but I guess they knew that. You can't expect them to turn it on just for you.

It is bleedin' cold for November though, I'll give you that.

It depends on how cheap your principal is. Last year, I worked at 2 small public schools.

school # 1- no heat on til mid/end of Decemeber. No A/C on til mid July..and when we can turn it on, there was a rule we had to keep it at 25 (I always had it on 16)

school # 2- heat on in October. In June, I said I was hot. They turned on the AC immediately.

Even with the heat on, the halls are freakin cold. I have to gear up to walk the halls...freakin' ridiculous. close the stupid windows

I'm pretty sure the OP's students and co-workers won't be complaining if they turned on the heat just "for him."

If the outside temperature goes to zero celsius today, then they may turn the heating on. Depends where you are, but Yongin looks to be about zero today.
It may be colder inside the school, but the outside temp determines if it's cold enough to turn on the heating.

They probably spent all the money for heat on the teacher outings, soju and new computers for the shoe cupboards. I'm sure they are cold too, but if there's no cash, what can you do?

My public school is freezing too. It's below zero here today. Everything is frozen outside and there is snow on the ground. But no heat.

I have an office in the back of my classroom with tons of thin windows and no heater even if I wanted to turn it on. I'm sitting here with a sweater, a winter coat and gloves and I'm still freezing.

I asked for a space heater for this room, but they seem to think I don't need it. It's ridiculous. I have a cold too, so this doesn't help. Brrrr.

Sometimes I have to wonder about my students. It's freaking cold as it can be, and I get into the room, and some kid thought it was a good idea to open a window for "air". And the other kids are giggling, while they're freezing and shivering. I sometimes have to check to make sure the short bus didn't deliver them to school.

Try using the washroom when they left the window open over night.

Like I said in a previous post--knowing my luck, the won will crash and it'll be the coldest winter in 200 years. Looks like both predictions are going to be correct.

I've not yet turned on the heat in my apartment. But know also that I sleep in a tent.

Today our school district is having its annual secondary school music & dance contest on the coldest day so far this autumn. Hmmm, do I really want to go down to the freezing, unheated county gymnasium to watch a karaoke competition and a bunch of Wondergirls impersonations and help hand out box lunches to the kids, or stay here in the nice, cozy staff room which just got new ceiling AC / heating units? Such a tough decision.

My previous school turned the heating on December 1st, no matter what. So hold out until then maybe?

Luckily, my present school seems to be able to respond to the weather and not the calendar.

Yesterday my area of Seoul hit -7c @ 3:30am.

Today it is just hovering around -9.5c @2:30am then warmed to -8c@ 8:45am.

This kind of reminds me of living in Kamloops B.C. .. btw, Kamloops isn't even this cold yet. Wow Shocked

My school has heaters full blast in most classrooms with windows wide open.

I see this all the time. Wasting heat. Leaving the windows and doors open. Not turning on the heat until December. Giving the 'inadequate funds' excuse while spending piles of money on frivolous bullshit.

It gets so cold in my building in the winter the toilets freeze up and you can see your breath in the hallways. Best of all? There's no hot water in the washrooms.
