I wrote a little story over the last weekend (i.e. fifteen minutes before posting) that I wanted to share with everyone. It is funny a story, though after reading through it I cried a little. It is both very unique and utterly banal. It is a pointless story, but I am sure it means something to someone. Yes, it is all these things and plenty more.
There are many children playing at the park. Two in particular seem to be having a grand old time in the sand box. One is a western boy new to the area and the other a Korean girl. They have been good friends for quite some time and get along quite well despite his inability to speak in her native tongue. As they make heart shaped sand-castles and write words in the sand they are given ice cream to enjoy. The boy happily accepts his ice cream and immediately begins to enjoy his treat. On the other hand, she is happy to get ice cream, it is her favorite treat, she is not used to the way it was scooped and stacked. Her annoyance grows to anger as she notices the boy not only doesn't seem to notice his irregular ice cream stacking, he doesn't seem to care at all. For one reason or another, he is completely oblivious to her plight. This fact, that she is angry and he is not, coupled with the other fact, that he is simply enjoying his ice cream instead of coming to her aid, creates an uncommon outcome. Not content with the situation she immediately smacks the ice cream out of his hand. As he screams in utter bewilderment and tries to retrieve his fallen snack she steps on it ensuring no salvage operation is possible. She stands in silence, now certain he will feel her pain and realize the error of his ways. He looks back at his friend completely uncertain of what just transpired.
Unfortunately, that is all there is to the story. I am not sure how it ends my f... ellow Dave's ESL cafe forum posters/trolls. Rest assured, whenever I do figure it out, I will be sure to let you know. Of course, I am not certain I will ever really understand how it ends.
GG,
Ryan |

The boy should probably go hang outside at Family Mart with his friend, who buys him new ice cream. A few days later, after some unanswered text messages, the K-girl will come back to the playground with more ice cream, but the wrong kind, and no apology. |

The little western boy was not a believable character. When he got his irregularly stacked ice cream cone, he didn't whine. That is not an emotionally honest portrayal of the western boys I know. He also did not make a mental note to come to Dave's and rant about how unfair his life was or that Koreans are uncivilized because they don't know how to stack ice cream. There was also no comment about how much the little Korean girl's mother was paying to have the little boy give her daughter English lessons. |

Haha, wait-if they are both kids then likely the idea that boys and girls are not equal would not have entered his head. I'm thinking K1 smackdown occurred or he snatched her ice cream or perhaps he snatched it and then said smackdown occurred. Kids being kids though if no adults got involved a couple of hours later they would be back to playing with the ice cream incident forgotten |

What I read into it is that Korean girls are high maintenance and high strung and white Western boys don't fuss enough over Korean girls for their taste. Is this art imitating life? |

Ya-ta, in the "location" spot of your username, you should change your killbox phrase to "ESL teachers are whiners" and you wouldn't have to bother posting in the general forum anymore. It'd be a real time-saver.
For a poster who always talks about whiners and "chants", you sure have been chanting the same whine over and over these days. |

And your whining about it is going to change that?
But you're right. I have been bothered by the increased amount of whining around here the last 6 months or so. I probably need a vacation from Dave's. |

Me hopes you consider not I amongst those whining here over the six months passed.
Because that would be immature,
