Grade 6 Lesson 9 looks like it will actually be useful so I'm planning on expanding it a little bit and doing an extra lesson on past tense. So far two songs I (and others) have come up with are "yesterday" by the beatles and "bang bang my baby shot me down" by Nancy Sinatra, along with some kind of gap fill worksheet activity. Has anyone used any other songs for teaching simple past? Thanks.

While I enjoy that song, it gets filed under "inappropes". Thanks though.

Here's a nice list of songs for the EFL classroom by a fellow EFL teacher.
http://eflclassroom.buzka.com/Music_and_Karaoke/go/27778/http://www.u.arizona.edu/~cphillip/resources.htm

I know it "seems" to work but I really have come to detest the "worksheet" fill in the blanks approach to songs. It really is all about "getting the blanks filled in" and unless really extended, amounts to a fun "filler". But I also realize the constraints with class sizes, time etc....

You might consider doing a song by giving students specific vocab to listen for. (a past tense word). they write the word Big on a sheet of paper and when they hear their word they stand up , holding up the word. A good way to foster listening skills. Then do the lyric sheet.

Songs? Well you better use this one if you are serious about the past tense!Lots of ways to do this. Even get them to write the story afterwards...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKkBBL_6ras Mr. Morton is cool.

Also Thank you is a good song with past tense. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzDI84ub7X4

Check our Youtube channel or Songs for all kinds of music that might work. But I recommend Mr. Morton.

Doing the past tense now? I can think of some. But the best song out there is one you'll use come time to expound the future tense...

"Now class, here's a present progressive tense song used for the immediate future."

Well I'm a lee-vuhn
On uh jetplane
I don't know when I'll be back again

Ohhh I'm so damn glad to go
