"Nope, no game today", and then I start whatever activity I'm doing. They sigh and shut up.

Other. I tell them we're going to play a game called "school." I'll play "teacher" and they get to play "students." Then I continue with the planned lesson.

Every time I do that, it cracks up the co-teachers.

I did that once. Never again! They fully expected me to play a game next time...they called me a liar...I had to punish them. Twisted Evil

In answer to the poll, I say "아니야." and move on.

Edit: CentralCali, I love your method--I'm going to steal it!

I explain that we only play a game once a year, the last class meeting before winter vacation. I then explain that if he/she ever yells "game" in my class again, EVERY student in the class will get their homework doubled -- I make certain every student in the class is aware of what "double" means...and what it means to them if little Johnny (or whoever) yells for a game again.

I play a year-end, game-show style review game (think high-school-bowl meets Jeopardy), with small prizes for the teams...everyone gets a prize, but the higher scoring teams get more candy. It is the only time I ever give them any candy or prizes or anything, and since it is a year-end review, it is still educationally sound.

...and yes, I really only ever play any kind of game once a year...and yes, I really would double the students' homework if anyone were foolish enough to yell "game" a second time...hasn't happened yet, though.

Say, do your work first and keep quiet, then we'll play a game. Fair enough don't you think?
