Has anyone had any experiences with ECC in Incheon? |

I believe there are a few ECCs in Incheon. When I lived there I believe there was one that was regarded as pretty bad. Generally the nicest thing that can be said about ECC is that it's reputation isn't as bad as Wonderland. |

Check with the current staff when the boss is NOT looking over their shoulder for individual school specifics.
More often than not with ECC you will NOT receive NHIC medical or NPS (pension) benefits.
You probably won't get paid any overtime (creative accounting on their part) but you should have no problems with base pay, severance and the flight.
They typically are kindy / elementary hakwons so you better like little kids and longish days (10am to 7 or 8ish). You can usually expect about 40-45 classes of 40 minutes rather than the more common 30 classes of 50 minutes.

(Disclaimer: I worked for YBM ECC in 2005)
I believe YBM ECC in Bupyeong and Songdo (both of which could be classified as "Incheon") are both company-owned schools run by head office.
If another YBM ECC branch in Incheon exists, then I would strongly bet that it would be a franchise.
The company owned schools such as the two above may be suitable for a 1st year newbie with no previous experience --- in so far as, at YBM the materials suck and the schedule will be crap, but you will always be paid on time and it has the stability that other places lack.
Although Incheon is 'adequate' it is no prize. You could push for somewhere nicer - ask about what other vacancies they have elsewhere. |

I'll hazard a guess and say more than likely it is a franchise.
If this doesn't turn you off --- then ask how many foreign teachers there are. If it is less than 4, I would tend to steer clear (lack of support for you, and it probably it has financial problems).
I worked at a company owned branch of YBM ECC and our branch was basically running at a loss (low enrolments), but because it is centrally owned by the head office, we never had any concerns about its financial position because overall the company is sound.
But with a franchise it is like a mom and pop store. You won't have the security of head office if things go bad and it would be entirely pot luck as to how the owner would run it and how stable it is. |
