Can we fly into Korea on a one-way ticket? My buddy wants to fly to Korea and look for work here. Is that possible?

Not sure, but most countries airport's won't even let you leave unless you have the requirement needed to land in the country you are going to.....
I couldn't just fly to China without meeting the requirements at a British airport, if I didn't have the correct visa or other travel requirements I wouldn't even get past the security gate.......... |

Most departure airports will not allow you to fly one way unless you have a return ticket or already have a work visa. The check-in counter usually makes sure of that. That's been the rule for years, even before the new visa regulations.
You can usually get an open return ticket good for one year. You can change the dates very easily. |

| I've done it several times and never had any problems. However, my friend tried flying here without a return ticket and wasn't even able to board the plane. |

Frankly, I'd rather sit at my computer and have the offers come to me. And have them buy me a free ticket. |
Good points, but I would encourage all people to fly over first, do some reconnaissance, and see if this is somewhere they could handle for a year. If you have a grand or two laying around I would highly recommend it. Accepting a job sight unseen is taking a huge gamble and if it doesn't work out you will probably end up spending more money in the long run getting back home. I accepted a job sight unseen and it has been fine so far, but I definitely could have gotten a better deal had I been here in person. |

I wouldn't risk it! My boyfriend tried to fly here from Miami on a one-way ticket and they wouldn't even let him check-in!
(And no refund because the airlines say you should know the visa laws for the country you buy a ticket to.) |

| I've flown to Korea twice with only a one way ticket and didn't have a problem either time. Once from NZ and once from the States. I 've also done it when traveling to 6 or 7 other countries and never had a problem. Not sure why the airline was concerned with peoples visas in the other posts. Do you know what airline it was that didn't allow your friend to board the plane? |

| I think the OP can have his/her question answered if we know what airport they are coming from. I know for a fact that Vancouver Int'l will either not let you board (esp if the carrier is KAL or Asiana) or be very reluctant. I've even had travel agents make sure I had a visa or return/outbound ticket. |

Officially, NO.
However, not all airlines enforce it. I flew here from Bangkok with no problems on a one-way ticket. That was with Korean air. On the other hand, I heard that some airlines including BA and Cathay Pacific simply will not let you check in without a visa, a return ticket, or proof of onward travel. This happened to a mate of mine flying from HK to Manila. He had to buy his ticket from Manila to Bangkok in Hong Kong. He got fleeced and paid way over the odds.
