this OnLive cloud computing gaming looks interesting. just about to be launched in the states. the idea being all you need is buy a $99 small box that connects with the OnLive cloud gaming service that does all the cpu/gpu work and u just recieve the stream from the game ur playing. No console/no high end pc gaming rig necessary. Just pay per play or something like that.
I dunno how they hope to get 1080p quality streamed fluidly. I can barely get low quality youpube vids past being stuttery and thats on an internet conenction that can download a 700mb file in 1 minute (off korean servers), and from what ive read for high end fps with OnLive lag is a prob, and alot of hardcore gamers have dismissed it because of this. but if they can solve these issues or u just want something casual like puzzle/strategy games then it seems like a potential game changer...errr so to speak.

Lag has proven to be a serious problem with using OnLive to the point that is has been delayed and discounted from it's original launch and price point (IIRC).
Many FPS already work to reduce input lag locally and music titles like Rock Band live and die by precise timing. Adding distance based ping in to the mix for everyone involved means that until we develop a new lightning fast form of internet then this won't get much further than puzzle games, rpgs, and adventure titles (i.e. games where latency isn't a huge factor). I believe the faster they market it as such, the better chance they have at survival once the founding funds dry up (assuming they aren't already running on debt). |

| It missed the boat. Hype level was good for this a year ago. It failed because the tech isn't there yet. Reviews are terrible and gamers know it's bad. |
