It's recently been made clear to me that now Korean immigration is accepting a sole VSS vs. both the VSS and CRC for Canadians. I'm wondering if anyone on Dave's has obtained a VSS through the Calgary Police Service. If so, how long did it be returned to you? (I'm currently in Seoul) And most importantly, was it accepted by immigration and the Canadian consulate? Many thanks! |

This isn't how it works. There's no such thing as a "sole VSS."
There are CRCs WITH and WITHOUT VSS (Vulnerable Sector Search). The CRC WITH VSS is more extensive (i.e., it searches more records) than the CRC WITHOUT VSS.
Previously (prior to Sept. 1), some Korean consulates in Canada (notably Toronto) were refusing to stamp CRCs unless they included the VSS. But Immigration accepted CRCs WITH or WITHOUT the VSS.
In mid-July, Immigration changed their rules. As of September 1st, all Canadians are required to submit a CRC WITH VSS. CRCs that do not include the VSS are no longer accepted by Korean Immigration.
You need to get a CRC that includes the VSS. It's a simple matter of checking an additional box on the form when you request the CRC. |
