Been awhile since I taught there but is there still that painting on the street just in front of the library of the United States flag being torched? |

Every country does that. Welcome to outside-of-the-US land, where most universities wouldn't be complete without upside-down-American-flag sweaters, Che Guevara coffee mugs and sweaters, and burning-of-the-American-flag rallies (with "burning-the-American-flag" sweaters!)
Nobody burns the Canadian flag. It's a giant leaf, you don't need to burn it to symbolize it's inadequacy. If you burn the Canadian flag, most non-Canadians will think you hate nature... Canadians will just say "huh?" |

So paint a burning Korean flag next to it, what are they going to do? Get mad? |

I thought about dumping paint all over it but people knew I was rather eccentric and so they would have figured out it was me. There was only one other American there and he seemed so "normal" (whatever that means).
I didn't want to start a race war

Incognito....explain yourself. Don't like Canada? Or just bored and want to boost your American ego? I don't know where you're from so it's all very ...mysterious.
I always get amused / confused when people dump on Canada.
And that reaction is soooo Canadian...
I LOVE CANADA...............but not because it's "a great country". It's just a totally subjective thing.
And yes, nobody would ever burn our flag. That much is TRUE. NOT subjective. |

If you think you are eccentric, you are either simply trying to hard to be or really are not.
If you know you are eccentric, you are too set in your ways and just too lazy or old to bother wanting to try to explain yourself to others. |

I haven't been up there for quite a while, always hated the layout of the campus. I recall it being a painting of a tiger shredding an American flag. And yes, it was on the cement right in front of the entrance to the library. |

Leave it be. If you don't like the fact this isn't Little America, that people here don't subscribe to baseball, hotdogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet, then get your ass home. An airport isn't far away, and a plane will whisk you away from images and opinions you may not agree with.
You sound like one of those mormon types--throw tantrums and yell a lot at the things you find offensive, as if you own the ground those people walk on.
I once heard somebody bitching and moaning about all the swastikas in SK at temples and shrines. Give me a fucking break. Get the *beep* out if you don't like it. They ain't changing for your insignificant ass. |

So if anything is wrong just don't complain. If you want to complain then go home.
Nope, that is not how society is improved.
Go back to the hole in the ground that you crawled out of |

What a joke. South Korea is totally and utterly "Little America". They emulate and worship America as well as loathing and fearing it.
It's kind of a love-hate relationship.
Your condescending attitude is arrogant and totally unhelpful. Do you think South Koreans would be happy if there were pictures in the USA of people burning the South Korean flag in front of important buildings? South Koreans would go crazy and you damn well know it. Drop your cultural relativity crap. |

I'll say again--if you don't like what you see, then get the *beep* out. This isn't mommy's back yard. You'll have to learn to accept things as they are here. |
