|
|
Hello. I have some questions about private tutoring rates.
1. How much should I charge on average? I have heard $40/hr - $50.
Is that for all ages and levels?
2. Does it depend on what area I'm in? Like: can I charge a lot more in,
say, Kangnam than other areas in Seoul?
3. In your opinion, is it monetarily worth it to go to Korea after college
and private tutor? I really need to save up a lot of money in a relatively
short time...
Thanks for your help!!! |

I think you are headed for trouble here guy! The $40-50 days are long gone. You can get yourself arrested and deported. That in itself might be an interesting tour.
In reality you might be able to juggle say 10 or 12 hours a week if you like riding the rails for hours on end. Maybe 30-40,000 won an hour if you ever actually get paid. |

OK, I'm curious about foreigners getting busted. I don't teach a single private now (turned 4 down this month after parent-teacher conferences), but when you say, "immigration is all over foreigners" for it, i am curious...
How are they any more in-tune to what people are doing privately without someone ratting them out?
They have to learn about it first. |

the country is ina resession.. 40-50 can be made but so is winning the POWER BALL!! dont go on ohh yeah I heard 50 is the norm!! thats a rare wage that a few make!! only a certain percentage even do privates
just charge what you feel comfortable with! group business classes can be worth 50 if you set them up yourself.. but if you go through recruiters welll then just like a superstar! you are paying percentage to your manager! so you will walk away with 30-50 depending...
you want to work illegally then go for it!! but if you get busted and you post BUSTED FOR PRIVATES!! not many people here will have sympathy for you...
watch your back!! make sure the place is legit and be carefull!!
be a good teacher.. and you may get referals.. if you are greedy and always walk out on the 59th minute dont expect to have that class very long!! remember you tell me where back home you will make 35-50 bucks an hour!!!! dont take it for granted and dont expect its the normal rate! parents are not spending so much these days!! drop your wage and you will find work.. ask for 50 and expect that phone to not ring back! |

Almost everyone I know charges 40-50k per hour. They don't need to do it, and get asked to do it...so they simply tell the person that their free time is precious and this is what it is worth. Take it or leave it. You would be surprised how many people "take it".
I personally don't do privates, as my free time is really valuable to me. Sure I could use the money, and the fact I am married with a kid, probably won't get me deported or have all my money stripped away...but still why hassle myself?
I'd suggest like other posters, BE CAREFUL. Immigration is cracking down bigtime. |
