An interesting idea. Open Source has brought some amazing stuff. I've installed Ubuntu on an old laptop and it's a marvel of what you can get for free in terms of an operating system and software apps that duplicate what you'd pay for on the Windows side.

Wikipedia, of course, is not without problems but something that merges software open source (not just letting any cracker add code) with the wiki concept would surely have textbook makers shaking in their boots.
