What will show up on a 'vulnerable sector' background check? Has anyone received one from Canada? Do non-vulnerablesector offences show up on the check? I have no criminal record, but I have been arrested in the past (a very minor theft). Will this be listed on the 'vulnerable sector' background check.
I ask because I heard that vulnerable sector checks are more detailed. Will it list this arrest? Will Korean immigration deny me a visa to teach public school because of this arrest? The search to ban people who might harm children is completely justified and long overdue; however I don't wish to be an accidental victim of this legitimate process. I stole a bag of bagels, a bottle of orange juice and a yogurt in Toronto a long time ago when I was broke and hungry.
Will this show up on my 'vulnerable sector' check? Will it affect my employment opportunities?
I appreciate any informed opinions.
Thank you,
J. Bing |

I got my vulnerable sector search done about 2 months ago, and it did not show an arrest I was worried would be on there.
Were you charged? |

I have a question. Do we need a vulnerable sector check if we are exclusively teaching adults at a hogwan? |

Yes, I was charged. But I'm pleased to hear that your arrest didn't show up on the report. I'd appreciatre hearing any other stories.
Cheers. |

The E-2 visa and its regulations make no distinctions according to the age level of the students being taught.
If you're going to be teaching on an E-2 (any hagwon or public school teacher, and most university teachers) and you're from Canada, you need the VSS. No exceptions. |

Yes, and for good reason, with Koreans' 'A white person should be able to teach anything' attitude. You never know when a uni instructor might be get an offer to teach at a kids' camp, or when a teacher at a business academy might be asked to take on a child as a one-to-one student.
If I'm not mistaken a VSS shows charges related to offences against minors, but not charges related to other crimes which were dropped or for which the accused was found non-guilty. |

A VSS will show all information located through Police indices checks. This will include all information related to non-convictions and all charges regardless of disposition.
This effectively 'screws' anyone who has been falsely accused, arrested, charged and subsequently proven innocent in a court of law. |

I don't know too much about the law but I don't think there is any such thing as 'proven innocent.' From my understanding someone can be found 'not guilty' for whatever reason. For certain crimes, especially for crimes against children, convictions are exceedingly difficult. Often professional criminals are experts at avoiding conviction. The VSS is absolutely essential if employers want to make informed decisions about job applicants. |

If your a Canadian YOU DON"T NEED A VS.
I spoke with a very well spoken and not so well spoken official in the Vancouver office and they both said VS is not necessary.
In fact on their webpage it says its not needed.
A plain jane CRC is needed, not even a fingerprint one.
A CRC envelope /sealed preferably and or Notarized(if CRC is in a sealed envelope no notirization is needed) a self addressed return envelope and 2.20 cents. |

You're right... my semantics... bad. However, the 'point' stands. |

Has anyone recived a 'vulnerable sector check' and had arrests (non-vulnerable sector) listed on it? How did immigration respond? |
