Hey all,
I'm going to be in Daegu with wife and son this Chuseok and next week. Mum will be resting, so that's means pappa needs to get out and about with the little guy. What kind of cool stuff is there to do in Daegu with a little boy? Is there anything like an amusement park? I did see something during the summer that looked like a big airplane or something (kind of looked back on it while going by in a taxi). We went to the Childrens Grand Park in Seoul this summer, but he was a little too short for most of the rides. (minimum 100 centimeters.)
What about during the week? I think most amusement stuff is semi shuttered during the week, but is there anything like a zoo, an aquarium, water park, or a museum that kids would be interested in?
Thanks.
ps - I think I'll probably head out by myself on Sunday night. Where does one go in Daegu to meet others?
pps - any hold 'em games in town? |

the airplane is actually a restaurant. It's near Suseong Lake (Suseung Mot), which has a small amusement park attached to it, called Suseung Land. It's a nice place--you can walk around the perimeter of the lake, there are benches, you can buy drinks, etc. in the amusement park itself you can go on age-appropriate rides and do all the typical carnival things. Not too big.
the other thing you can do is go to Children's Hall in Hwanggeum Dong, not far from Outback. It has lots of science-type hands-on activities. There are signs in English for it all along that street.
edited so as not to confuse the location.

Do you mean the children's Hall in Beomeo Dong? I presume thats the one you mean. Take the subway (Line 2) to Beomeo and it's about a 10/15 minute walk to children's hall. Take the exit for the Grand Hotel and walk up that way.
Also there's Woobang Land which is Daegu's amusement park. I've been there a couple of times and it seems to have some stuff for younger kids to do. There's also Daegu tower that you can go up and get a nice view of Daegu if it's a clear day. Take the subway (Line 2) to Dyuru Station and it's a short walk from there. I'm not sure what exit from the subway but the signs should be able to help. Also right next to Woobang land there is Dyuru Park which can be nice. |

Childrens Hall is in HWANGGEUM DONG, near Hwanggeum Negari. It is NOT a 15 minute walk from Beomeo Station, it's at least 30, especially with a 4 year old.
Top bets for a child:
1. Zoo : Dalseong Park
2. Woobang Towerland (Duryu PArk)
3. Suseong Land at Soosung Lake (Doosan Dong)
4. Childrens Hall
5. Spa Valley Water Park. (Pa Dong)
ALl of these things can be seen here:

Use the website I gave you. There's a search box. Some of the places have hours posted, others have phone numbers to call.
Galbijim.com wiki has more info as well. |

right, Hwanggeum dong, my bad.
not to criticize the others' suggestions but the zoo is kind of sad...not much to look at, lots of annoying people throwing shit at the wretched animals that are actually there. Woobang is ok but can be really expensive.
the nice thing about the Children's Hall and Suseung Land is they're free. Well, SL is if you don't go on any rides. |

thanks crescent. I was in a hurry and didn't read fully.
I did go to galbijim wiki (Daegu), and didn't find much there. |

Back to being irrelevant I see. If you made sense sometimes (read lucid), there is the slight possibility that you could be amusing. Oh well. Back on your meds now please. |

Yeah, the zoo sucks for adults, but a 4 year old will do alright.
The interesting thing about that zoo is that it is surrounded by a centuries old compressed-earth wall that was once part of the old city fortress wall. |

I forgot...
There's a small indoor ice rink at Suseong Land, with skate rental. |

I agree with the other posters about suseong pond... there's the amusement park (very small and totally age appropriate for a 4 year old), there are duck shaped paddle boats that you can go out into the lake in, and there are also ducks! if you bring a loaf of bread, i'm sure your child would get a kick outta feeding the ducks... seems like you could definately make an afternoon out of it.... have fun! |
