What is a 'vulnerability sector' background check? Why is it necessary if we have produced a clean criminal record check? How does one go about getting it in Ontario?

Any information on this would be appreciated.
Thank you.

A VSS is a more in depth search of your history. It's for people who intend to work with the children, elderly, or the infirm. Hence the term, vulnerable.
It searches for things like being taken into custody on a psych warrent. Charged for assault but not convicted, stuff like that.

Why is it that when I google 'vulnerability background check' nothing shows up? Is it even a standard term? Do we call it something else in North America?

try searching Vulnerable Sector Search.

from http://www.police.york.on.ca/hq/vulnerable.htm

What is Vulnerable Sector Screening?
The vulnerable sector screening was established to provide screening of individuals who intend on working or volunteering with the vulnerable sector. A vulnerable person is defined as a person who, because of their age, a disability, or other circumstances, whether temporary or permanent are (a) in a position of dependence on others or (b) are otherwise at a greater risk than the general population of being harmed by a person in a position or authority or trust relative to them. This type of screening is required for the following types of positions: teacher, social worker, taxi driver, day-care worker, adoptive parents, sport coaches, etc.
What does a vulnerable sector screening include?
A vulnerable sector screening search may provide the following information:

Criminal record (adult and/or young offender, including summary offences);
Findings of not guilty by reason of mental disorder;
Probation, prohibition and other judicial orders which are in effect;
Convictions/pending charges under Child and Family Services Act;
Apprehension under the Mental Health Act;
Details of incidents that York Regional Police believes may assist an agency in making an informed decision, including charges where no finding of guilt was made and incidents where no charges were laid.
How to apply?

Great! Another obstacle that the Koreans have thrown our way!!!!

I returned to Korea recently without a Visa only because I didn't receive my papers ie. contract and notice of apporval from Korea in time to obtain a Visa in Toronto so now after submitting everything that was asked of me I find out today I cannot receive my Visa number without this new thing called a Vulnerable Sector Screening.

I checked out that site but I could not find one for the city of Toronto which is where my last address is. Does anyone think this matters if I submit the York Police force one?

I'm pissed and wonder if other native speakers are going through the same BS and just wondering if it's even worth coming here anymore especially with the depreciating WON.

cheers

Well you Canadians seem to know of the existence of such a critter as a VSS report, but I haven't heard any Americans posting about this issue. Is there such a thing in the US as a VSS report and does anyone know how to go about getting one?

ttompatz where are you?

No such animal in the USnor do US citizens need one.

The Immigration regulations clearly state that the VSS requirement applies only to Canadian citizens.

I know, expecting teachers to be cleared to work with children. How odd. Mate stop complaining, just go get the form. Or better still stay in Toronto and teach and then report back when you find out that they do background checks also.
People like you give ESL teachers a bad name with all this bull you talk
