I will be teaching 10 hrs of elementary xtra activity classes split into 2 groups...grades 1-3 and 4-6.. Yah I know.. a bit of a spread. Anyway, I'm looking for some structured lesson books for these classes because I don't want to spend hours each week creating lessons for each individual class (I also teach regular curriculum classes to grades 3-6). Also, I think these kids need some structure as it's a small rural school and their English levels are fairly low. Anyone have suggestions for elementary texts that include a variety of activities in addition to structured lessons that work(ed) well for you? Most of my experience is with teaching academic EFL to adults (before Korea), and teaching middle school (2 yrs) here, so I'm not familiar with the elementary aids out there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... Perusing the text catalogs, of course, is no replacement for first hand experience.. Thanks in advance!

I have an After School english class where there are a variety of levels, I use English Land. - Pearson
the students get their own text book, the school paid for this. There are good activity books with them.
I give them a quick test at the beginning so they get on the right levels.
Each week I do a different game for each level which all can take part in.
It works well, the kids seem to love working on their own books and usually all attend every class.

The best one is " Tell me more" available on the TESL journal. Just click Things for teachers.

I get a lot of notifications of people liking this http://www.scribd.com/doc/5589105/Thematic-ESL-Activity-Books-Elementary2

Also try the first one http://www.scribd.com/doc/5589110/Thematic-ESL-Activity-Books-Elementary

But these are more like supplemental vocab materials..

I helped develop these years ago for the toronto school board. You can also get TELL ME More at http://finchpark.com/books or also try our scribd site to check it out before purchase.

Get a copy even only for reference...

cheers,
