|

My boss is claiming I need to pay two new taxes.
"recruitment insurance" which is equal to 4.5% of my health insurance, and "residents' tax" which is 5,620 krw.
Any word on this? |

Residents tax has always been around. It is 10% of what eer your tax payment is. If you pay 30,000won tax your residents tax is 3,000won.
Recruitment tax I have never heard of. I think it's bullsh!t. |

Yeah, I figured as much.
It is apparently 4.5% of my health insurance, and he did the math wrong. |

It's recruitment insurance. I misspoke.
A friend mentioned that they're probably trying to charge me for the price of the insurance they paid to guarantee I'll stick around for a year. |

Your resident tax sounds right if your income tax works out to exactly 54,200/month at the end of the year. I don't really know how an employer can deduct the resident tax (which is 10% of your income tax) when your taxes haven't even been filed. If you want to know the truth, an employer doesn't have to get your taxes right to exactly what they should be. That's impossible. But they can overdeduct whatever amount, like 4% or whatever, just to make up for any mistakes and then, after filing a return, you'd get back whatever you overpaid. The problem is that most employers just pocket the tax money they deduct.
Welcome to fkg Korea.
There's no such thing as a recruitment tax. And why the hell would it be 4.5% of your health insurance? That doesn't even make any fkg sense.
Tell him to gent bent and not deduct any taxes, or to deduct according to the tax office's online calculator (the smallest amount), because he's obviously pulling the wool over your eyes. |

Yes yes, I know he's pulling wool over my eyes.
I didn't realize the math was that bad, and I'd never heard of the resident tax before.
Go figure. |
