I know I should post this on the China board, but they are not accepting new registrations at the moment. Besides, I know that people on this board have experience or knowledge of other countries in Asia.

I desperately need a way out of Korea, I've been put in a very bad situation and I need to move on. China seems like my best option.

Does ANYONE have ANY experience or knowledge getting a job in China. There are plenty of jobs there, but I have no idea at all about the process for getting all the right paperwork.

From what I read on the China board, it seems that you need an invitation letter from an employer, which you take to the Chinese consulate to get a work visa. But then I read all sorts of conflicting information. Others go on a tourist visa and then either convert in china or go to Hong Kong to get the visa.

Has anyone got any first-hand knowledge of this? With the current climate in Korea (lots of people jumping ship) I'm wondering if anyone is actually doing this or planning to do it. Maybe someone has a friend who is doing it. I'm sure plenty of people move from Korea to China.

If not China, how about Taiwan? Any info on that would also be appreciated.

As I said, I've been put in an impossible position here, and time is running out. Please don't say "Go home". I don't even really have a 'home' anymore. Yes I'm a UK citizen, but I don't have a 'home' there. Home is where I happen to be. Right now home is right here in Seoul, but soon I'll have to leave.

Help needed PLEASE.

It seems to me the first thing you should do is quit wasting your time asking for advice on Dave's K-forum and apply for a job in China (or Taiwan if you want to make more money).

Just Google "teach in China." I am sure that some sites for recruiters will come up. Get in contact with them asap. Recruiters are the people that are going to have the most incentive to help you out of your situation.

Well, I worked in Taiwan years ago, and am working in China now. In both cases I just showed up and found work. Taiwan was a bit of a hassle for visa, had to go to Hong Kong twice. China was easy for me, and though many recruiters or potential employers said a trip to Hong Kong would be necessary, it may be that I am in a province where it isn't necessary. Maybe if I got work elsewhere I would have needed to leave the country for visa. Not sure, heard from someone there are 2 or 3 provinces, don't know what the other 1 or 2 might be, where one doesn't need to leave for the visa. There's quite a salary range in China, and I wouldn't settle for the lower end. I don't think anyone should, but with all the non-native speakers teaching English here, many without degrees, many will take lower pay. If you can emphasize education and experience, you can negotiate higher pay. It can be cheap to live here, and Taiwan wasn't that expensive either. For cash, Taiwan might be a better place. It all depends of course.
