I'm thinking about doing the whole thing(MaAppLing) in a year (5 units per semester) but am hesitating a bit. I don't want to overcommit myself and end up hating it.
My work hours will be good for that period and I should be free from about 3:30 Mon-Fri with weekends off.
Has anyone here (or there) attempted this and found it was o.k? If so, what were the factors that made it possible for you? What sort of discipline did you need to do it?
I could pop home and do it but would rather stay here as I'm a bit sick of moving, setting up again etc. |

I'm on the last leg of an 8 course Southern Queenland masters in education. I started last March and should finish in February. I had no problems at all with it. I did two courses and then three and I'm now on the last three. In Korea I had a uni job with lots of free time and I left Korea at the end of the 2nd leg, but I was pretty lax with my time. I work well under pressure but poorly without it. Fortunately I made up my time and focused when I needed to and wasn't late with anything (yet). I never felt too constrained generally though as I said my schedule gave me a fair bit of spare time.
I'd say go for it if you have a reasonable amount of free time, which you seem to have (and you don't mind hitting the books sometimes when you'd rather be going out, especially near the end of each semester) or you can focus yourself and can work well anyway. You could always stretch it just a bit (add 3 months or so, assuming your program is in 3 1/2 month blocs like mine) and take the pace more slowly.
Good luck. |

CC, do they offer a summer semester? A lot of Aussie uni's, particularly those that offer Distance Ed, offer 3 semesters per year. That might be worth looking into to ease your burden a bit over each semester and you can still complete your MA within a year timeframe.
Also, what do they say the time committment is for each unit? I've just enrolled in a Grad Cert program and they say it's about 10 hours per unit. I'm such a wuss I'm only doing 2 units per semester. |

Thanks Waterbaby. That sounds like a good idea but after looking at the couse info book it seems they don't offer my units over summer. Bummer.
I'll give them an email and confirm as it can't hurt to ask.
Cthulhu, you've given me a bit of a boost with your experience.
Cheers all. |
