There are places you can rent one for free as long as you buy water from them (5k/jug). Get a Korean friend to help you find a good one. |

There's a couple different kinds of machine you can get.
The most expensive kind links up to your tap, and filters the water. The up-side is that you don't have to get water delivered. The down side is A) expensive and B) You have to replace the filter every couple months. When I say expensive, I mean I've seen them at Home Plus for 400,000. I hear the filters are 50,000. You can also rent them, and then the company provides all filters and service. Rental starts around 35,000 a month.
Less expensive is to buy one that takes a bottle. Water is 5,000 per 18.9 liter jug. I just bought one (new) for 170,000 and got two bottles free. The cold water is chilled and the hot water is, well, hot. You call when you want more jugs, and you trade them the empty for a full one. |

The company I deal with provides a free machine if you use 4 big jugs a month. I dont (more like 2) so I had the option of paying w5000/mo for the machine or buying it outright for 140000. |

I checked on renting a machine. They expect me to to purchase a minimum 4 bottles of water a month. I live alone and there is not way in hell i drink that much H20. 2 bottles, maybe, but 4 not a chance. |

We rent a machine that connects to the house water supply. We had two options. We could rent a machine with hot and cold water supply for about 36000 a month or just cold water supply for 29000 a month. All the services and filters are free. They come in every month to clean the inside and every two months to replace the filters. I takes them about 10 minutes to do the job. |

Wow, I spend more a month on buying 2 liter bottles of SamDaSoo.
I should start doing this. Do you have to sign a year contract? |

Looks like it's cheaper to buy bottled water at the convenience store. |

Well, let's see. If you use 2 bottles a month, at 10,000 won, then it is expensive. If you're using 4 at 20,000 a month, then for an extra 16,000 a month, you never have to call for delivery, store the extra bottles, etc. If you go light one month, you don't have extra bottles laying around, and if you go heavy you don't have to order more. You're pretty much good to go all the time, and for an extra 16,000 won a month, I don't think that's a bad deal. |

Well I am not really worried about the money. We now have a clean and cold water supply in our house so we never have to buy water in a shop. We are serious water drinkers and easily finish 4-5 liters a day. We also use the clean supply for cooking and cleaning fruit and vegetables. For us it is a big improvement over using bottled water. |

29,000 won per month for that water service equals just short of 350,000 won per year. If you get the hot/cold option (which my bottle machine has) you're paying 420,000 per year. That's almost 1/2 million won, dude! That's a hell of a lot of money for water!
I'm much happier with my method, and I'll gladly store the bottles on the roof or along the back pantry around the washing machine. It's maybe 1 or 2 extra bottles laying around?
And I get hot water through the machine. No extra cost.
I'm happy you like your water system, though. I'm sure it's convenient for you. My wife likes to get her groceries from home delivery. I won't even get into what that probably costs her extra. |

No, I caught that.

420,000 is a lot of money, but relatively speaking, over a year, it is not a lot of money for water, if you're doing 4 bottles a month.

If you've got the space, its all good. If you don't it sucks.

I've got the same system as you. I have bottles delivered, and I get hot and cold. I'm just saying that having a machine isn't that bad, or a horrible rip-off. Some people are willing to pay more for a little convenience. |

I remember when my wife and I went water shopping and we had to buy those big 2 liter six packs. We live on a steep hill and there is no elevator in our building so dragging that six pack up to my house was a pain in the ass. Then we would finish all 12 litres in about 2-3 days. That meant I had to do that twice a week!!!! Now I like my daily training sessions but that just sucked.
Now life is easy. The way I like it. |
