I should not talk to my coordinator much.
In the course of asking about tomorrow (supposed to be a "sports day", but then learned if it rains, we have to teach, including the special 2 hour after school class)
of course, it'll rain tomorrow.. I just checked.
but I was then informed.. oh.... the Korean teachers had to file the form for 2 paid days of vacation since Fri and Monday are not official holidays.
(or maybe she meant Fri and Tue.)
I think I return on Wed.
anyways... I'm not particularly thrilled and or willing to use my PAID vacation days for Chuseok. I'll come in and play with myself for 8 hours.
(heard several Korean teachers are coming in because they don't want to come in during winter break)
I'll still get my full winter vacation no matter what but that will involve more BS and more paperwork.
I despise this bureaucratic nonsense.
Anyone else having the same deal? |

I am off the 12th-17th and I have heard nothing about having to use my vacation days. I work for a public school with EPIK. Just come in and surf the net for 8 hours before using your vacation time. I hope they do not tell me tomorrow that I have to use my vacation time that would really be a bummer. Good luck hope it works out for you. |

Monday 15th is an official public holiday and should be a day off for everyone (unless your contract allows them to make you work public holidays). You should get that day off, regardless of what other teachers are doing. |

Principal's "discretion days" off are NOT part of your contracted annual holiday. Make a stand over it. If they argue, hand in your notice. They will back down.
(This is usually a co-teacher issue and NOT from the admin office.) |

Ya know, one time in public school I made a stand over the contract, handed in my notice and they did NOT back down. They thought they had me backed into a corner. Dicks. |

at my last public school, as a "FU" they told me I couldn't take the school's bday off (it was a principal's discretion holiday). As an FU to them, I didn't show up anyway hahaha |

What was the dispute; and, what was the result? |

A friend of mine had this exact issue last semester, she talk to her district liason (or whatever they are called) and was told that these days are NOT part of our paid vacation days. |

Monday is the only weekday public holiday.
Our school will have shorter classes all Friday, and we go home at around 2:30. The Principal has given Tuesday as a holiday too.
Go with the flow. |

Heh, nice KYC.
I had a similar situation at my old hagwon. We were to have three days off as per the holiday, but the school wanted the teachers and students to come in for two of those days. As a trade-off they gave us two other days off later in the month, but subtracted them from our 10 allotted vacation days.
Also happened when they wanted us to work a 12-hour shift on a Saturday during intensives. Some of the teachers said no, as we were told about this the day before, so we were allowed to stay home but were docked a paid vacation day.
Hagwon have some redeeming qualities for teachers, but vacation certainly isn't one of them. |

I recently had to sign the book which documents all of my days off and I didn't understand why. They didn't tell me this was one of my paid vacation days. Guess this is an issue that will come up with me in the future when I try to take my holidays This is why I come on Dave's...to find out what new crap my school is going to pull on me. Hope they're ready for a fight. |
