|
|
| I did my final interview with SMOE. I applied late so if I get placed, it will be in classes that have already been in progress since September 1st. The person I interviewed with said that since I missed out on both orientations, I would not get an orientation. This worries me. What kinds of things are covered during the orientation that I might find useful for classroom teaching and how can I prepare on my own should I get accepted? |

Calling ddeubel to the office. He works with SMOE directly and you should contact him here or in a PM he can give you some good information on things you can use to help get you settled. He has a quite extensive online presence through ESLclassroom
He is definitely the person to give you some information since he is largely responsible for a good portion of the lectures that take place during the most recent orientation that you missed. Good luck and welcome to Korea. It can be fun and daunting at the same time, but for most of us who have been here for a while it is home. |

I will do that once I get the final word which should be very soon. Thanks for the advice! I'd hate to go into this blind and I hope to feel at home in Korea too. |

| I missed orientation and I was fine. Actually I didn't miss it I begged not to go as everyone I met told me that it was not useful and that it was basically a drunk fest in the middle of the woods with really bad food. |

I see...I'm not a big drinker so maybe it's good I missed the orientation. Though I heard it's required so whatever you did, props to you! I take it you've taught in Korea before judging by your join date so you had some practice. This will be my first year teaching so I want to be prepared as much as possible. |

Hi ddeubel,
I got the contract from SMOE and it looks like I'll be going ahead with it. Please send me any additional information you might have on the orientation...the ppts/resources you mention in this email. Thanks in advance for all your help!

Thank you ddeubel! This is a life saver. I feel better now about going to teach with no orientation. You're awesome! |

| I need to download Haansoft Hangul to download the orientation materials. I visited the site and it's not free. Anybody know if this is a good site to download a free Hangul Word Processor? http://fileextensiontype.com/open.aspx?file=hwp I'm under the impression it is a good alternative to Haansoft Hangul. If not, what's your suggestion? |

Thanks for the link but that site links to a Wikipedia article on Haansoft Hangul when I click on download. Then I get redirected to the Haansoft Hangul website. This isn't a free download from the looks of it. I'm a computer dummy so am I just missing something and do you have a direct link to the download? How much do I have to pay, if anything? Thanks in advance. |
