After the three days of Chuseok, or Korean Thanksgiving holiday, people have to return to their daily routine once again.
With the holiday shorter than before, the ritual of visiting faraway homes then coming back, eating lots of food and sleeping a lot, all in a short space of time, could leave office workers more tired than usual.
In fact, more patients are found to visit doctors with headaches and indigestion during this time. Here are some pieces of advice give by Korea Medical Association member doctors and others offer to deal with such fatigue.
1. Exercise: sleeping is a good way to overcome physical stress, but moving is also helpful. Strolling in a nearby park with other family members can have the dual function of knocking off some added weight and preventing indigestion. Also it could result in a better night's sleep.
Simple stretching is a good idea on the first morning of work. Try to take a walk at lunchtime to get back to your usual physical condition.
2. Avoid late night eating and drinking binges with workmates, which can lead to serious fatigue.
3. Beware the cold: The change in tension between work and holiday period can make one extra sensitive to cold. Especially when the temperature difference between daytime and evening is large, one should ideally wear long sleeves and keep the legs covered.
If one has high fever one or two weeks after visiting an ancestors graveyard, he or she should visit the doctor. Korean hemorrhagic fever, leptospira, or scrub typhus, can all be contracted at this time of year.
4. It is suggested students take vitamins. After the holidays, students preparing for college entrance examinations could feel extra stress after having had fun with their families and sleeping and eating a lot.
Try to reduce sleeping time gradually. In order to escape fatigue, drink plenty of water. Taking half an hour's nap or vitamins could invigorate one.
