|
|
Hello all! I am trying to find out if there is any way I can get involved with theatre while I am here. I don't necessarily mean acting, but by ways of volunteering, or are there any sort of active groups for English speakers????
I am sort of starved to participate and have not been able to find any options thus far.
I live in the Cheong-Ju area.
(When I say theatre, I don't mean cinema....just to clarify) |

Great idea....
BUT
Keep in mind the foreign stage actors (E2s) who were arrested by immigration (for visa violations) for performing on stage in Busan.
It was pretty big news here a couple years ago.

| Yeah, don't violate your visa. It's quite possible that those guys in Busan two years ago I think were working for pay without getting the proper stamps for having a second job. Doing theater for free won't get you in trouble. |

Well, what a coincidence. I live in Cheong-Ju, I teach at a University here.
My freshmen students are currently rehearsing to perform "Pygmallion" in a month's time. I'm very busy because I have two writing courses, but my boss wants me to sort of help out on rehearsals. I'm not terribly interested in that.
If you want to play the role of "assistant director" I could ask my boss about it. They rehearse every night at 6pm. I know this isn't acting (all the students have the roles), but they probably could use any help they could get (esp. if you can do a cockney accent, which I am patently incapable of ). |

| Growl......problem....I teach in a Private school and I work until about 8pm every night....weekends are free and mornings/ afternoons (which probably wouldn't help). |

| Yeah, the students have classes during the day. However, they might do weekends as well, I could check tomorrow and get back to you. They tend to do these type of things to death (in the Spring there was a dance competition where they practiced for hours every day). |
