I live in a little one room apartment on a university campus. I can't move out at the minute due to policy change as regards housing. Therefore I need to make do with what I got.

I need some tips. I have a humongous bed. Any creative ways to make it less noticeable during the day?

Overall I'm planning to go with a green theme. Any ideas on the best plants to use?

Any other ideas on how to create an illusion of space or on anything are very, very welcome.

Remember that this is university property so throwing out furniture is not an option unfortunately.

Tell them you'll quit if they don't provide a bigger room, pronto.

Ideally you'd get a folding screen to hide the sleeping area, but if that's not possible, lots of throw pillows along the wall on the long side of the bed tend to make it look less like a sleep surface and more like a place to sit. Mirrors tend to make small spaces look larger, as does lots of light.

I was going to say exactly what Peppermint posted. I had the same problem at one of my first apartments. I bought 2 body sized pillows, and put them along the wall, to make my bed look like a couch. Mirrors definitely do make a place look bigger. Even if you can't get huge mirrors, you could find some that make it look like you have more windows in your place than you actually have. Don't know what plants to suggest. I have a hanging plant in my apartment now. I don't know what it's called, but it's growing like crazy! It makes me happy. I love plants.

Those common philodendron and mother in laws tongue plants do well in low light conditions. Here's pics of what I'm talking about. I'm sure we've all seen thousands of these sitting around.

take some of your fav photos and get them developed 8x10 ( i think it cost 2500 per photo) buy black and other different colors of construction paper... make photos look matted or framed for a fraction of the price. Having things on the walls helps

pretend that it's not your room but it's a friend's who let you borrow it for a year. Your friend explicitly told you not to change anything in HER apartment or she would sue you. Put up a photo of your friend and make sure you commit to her wishes everyday.

This way you won't feel pressured to feminize the apartment in your own special way!

thanks guys. Those are some great ideas. I'm defintly going to do the picture thing, using some of my friend's shots.

I'll also get some big cushions for my bed and try to have more plants. I'm thinking bamboo.
