We all know that no-one gives a toss when you complain about schools to any regulatory agency, but does critisizing them on the Internet generally have any effect?

But couldn't you just take all your money and leave the country? Besides, you would obviously do it anonomously. And if your comments were true and/or a matter of subjective judgement, what legal recourse would they have?

It can. I know it can. I won't go into details but I know it did at least once.

As for lawsuits, they would need a lawyer in California to subpeona Dave to get your IP info ... unless Dave was low enough just to give that information to a school (and potential advertiser).

If you really wanted to increase the odds and hated your school enough, the thing to do would be to create a homepage named after your school and it's city, such as Wonderland Acadaemy, _________-Dong, Seoul. Then if anyone googled the name and city that would be the first thing to come up.

That's a great idea. It seems like this would be a good way for people the arrogant jerks think are powerless to fight back. I wouldn't have thought of doing this before this morning, but events have convinced me that I'm likely to be leaving soon. Hence I'll probably take my saved 7M won to a low cost country, make this my project for a while and then try ESL again somewhere else.

I know there are various tips you can find for increasing the likelihood of such a site coming up on search-engine searches. I would just be careful to keep your criticism as professonal as possible to add credibility. You should also get some photos of the boss and whatever supervisor was a problem. They'd be totally freaked out to see their photos there, and incensed that they can't do a thing about it if you're out of the country.

There are also a couple of hagwon blacklists you should check out.

Can anyone refer me to some of these blacklists?

The rules are not the same here. As I understand it even if it is true you can still get done for slander. I think if you say some thing with the intent of hurting their business or reputation you can be sued

Not if you've left the country.

This site had been up for years, and it certainly impacted me when I was considering jobs when I came here: http://www.lulu.com/content/86610

Now she's turned it into a book.

I'm sure it must have an impact, especially for potential teachers researching a particular school.

Putting the name of certain hogwons into Google gets immediate feeback, some of it very negative. I'm sure that'd scare off some teachers.

IF you are in Korea you are at risk of a lawsuit if the employer can figure out who you are. Truth is NOT a defense in a defamation suit.

If you are OUT OF KOREA... SLAG AWAY>>>> they can't touch you.

I'd imagine being sued about such a thing would be very rare indeed.
