Howdy.
My girlfriend has had a horrible back pain, especially around her right shoulder blade. She went to an acupuncturist in Yangjae; the treatment helped a lot, but the communication barrier, she says, was an issue of concern.
The pain has returned today, and she's seeking a good English-speaking back specialist and/or acupuncturist, preferably in the Gangnam area, where we live.
Anyone know of any?
Thanks a lot. |

I know a few chiropractors. One in Gangnam is Dr. Andrew Park. Here's his website with info:
http://seoulchiropracticinfo.com/about/
The others I know are in Itaewon.
1. New York Wholistic Care (Dr. Vincent Jong)
http://www.korea4expats.com/service-New-York-%20Wholistic-Care-Chiropractor-in-Itaewon-Seoul-624.html
http://nywholisticcare.com/en/01_about_en.html (homwpage)
2. Create Wellness (Dr. Will Choi)
http://www.createwellnesscenter.com/locations/
I usually go to New York Wholistic. Dr. Jong is quite gentle. I do sometimes visit Dr. Will at Create Wellness. He does more sports injury technique.
I've been to Dr. Park in Gangnam once. He was quite gentle as well.
Hope this helps. |

Can anyone comment on the price of NY wholistic?
I've been to create wellness before and they are 48,000 per visit (which is 5 or 10 min on the table with that rolling pin that goes up and down your back and neck and then a full adjustment, which feels really good)
I've heard people really like NYW, but I'd like to know the cost and what's involved before I go all the way out there.
Thanks |

If you're looking just for acupuncture and oriental medicine, I would recommend Dr. Kim Yonghie's Oriental Medical Center in the French district near Express Bus Terminal. He speaks great English and the nurses can speak enough to communicate the basics. The first session was about 7,000 won with insurance, and the following sessions are about 5,000 won. I have problems with my lower back and the acupuncture seems to help. It's not a full-blown chiropractor clinic, though, just oriental medicine. But if that's what you're looking for, definitely check them out. They're above the Starbucks at the entrance of Seorae Maeul in Banpo. |

69,300 won for an adjustment. But you can pre-pay for I think it's 10 visits.
So, yeah, it's more expensive, but Dr. Jong was more familiar with a particular method I needed done. That's the main reason I switched.
They don't have the rolling pin thing there, but I do like the tables better (they move up and down like the ones at Create Wellness). And Dr. Jong leaves you on there longer and makes sure it's stretched you out before he starts adjusting. Consequently, you may be there longer than you would be at Create Wellness, but for me, I don't like to be rushed through an adjustment.
Also, when you first go in, they have shorts and t-shirts you change into.
Dr. Jong also gives a lot of guidance for things you can do to improve your condition. And his treatments are pretty well integrated with the massage therapists and Pilates instructors (you don't have to do those, but if you did, he communicates with them on where you are having trouble).
At Create Wellness, massage/Pilates/yoga worked pretty independently from each other and it was up to you to decide which you wanted to do and...well, it would basically feel like separate appointments. Which is fine if you're more self-directed.
The main thing I don't like is that I'm sometimes there a while. I mean, it's good and bad. As I said, I don't like to be rushed. But like, I went back to Dr. Will at Create Wellness a few weeks ago and liked that I was in and out.
They're both good chiropractors. So I recommend them both. Just depends on which one works best for you. |

So just curious, is NYW covered at all by the national insurance and cheaper, or is it just a 69k flat rate fore everyone? |

Not covered. But I think Dr. Jong knows of some private carriers that might cover it. Not sure the premiums make it worth it, though. |

It's still in Itaewon. I'm not sure what became of Create Wellness. Dr. Yoo had been the main chiropractor but kind of peeled off a while ago and is now primarily working back in the US. Dr. Will then became the main guy there. So now that Dr. Will has his own office, I'm not sure who's left at Create Wellness.
Anyway, in case this is helpful to anyone. |

I visit Sky chiro - opposite IP hotel. 10 prepaid sessions came to 400,000. You are in there for much longer than creative wellness (I also tried these guys but wasn't too impressed) and the treatment is more rounded with a good deal of physio and exercise therapy in addition to adjustments.
I've been having treatment from Dr Dan and I am really happy with the place. |

I'd be keen to hear if anyone knows of good (relatively cheap) acupuncture places near to Itaewon/HBC also. |
