Cool. Thanks for the info. This seems like a techno club, does it play a good amount of hip-hop?
Any other suggestions would be great. We're looking for a place to hear top 40/hip-hop stuff, maybe a place that's frequented by foreigners? |

Try Club Foxy. It's free for foreigners plays hip hop and has an outdoor area to see the sun rise or take a break from the dance floor. It's in the PNU(Pusan National University(Don't get confused with Busan Universtiy)) area. |

Take Subway line 2 and get off at Kyungsung Univ/Pukyong Univ stop and then hang a left, when u see the Dunkin Donuts on your right then hang another left, and just walk and you will "hear" the hip hop clubs there are a couple of them, i just do not happen to go to them hence i can't tell u the names, but seem to be fairly popular, and super easy to find. |

Not exactly. Club Foxy (the big one) is in Seomyeon. Get off at Seomyeon station, and head towards the Judie's Taewa exit.
The free entrance for foreigners is a thing of the past. Cover is (generally) 15,000 won including a drink. Sometimes they have headline acts that are a little bit more.
The club has a nice feel to it, but gets incredibly packed after 11. If you're keen to hit the dancefloor, you might not enjoy it. There are usually too many people for there to be any meaningful dancefloor. The club also hires dancers (as in, the Korean line-dancer types) which doesn't help.
There are plenty of other places around, great bars and clubs, but only Foxy can really be called a hip-hop club (and even then...).
Kyungsung is great, but you'll have to be prepared for the usual mix of top 40 and K-pop.
Vinyl is great, but is, as you said, a "techno" club. |

Yeah, let's get this straight, it's not really a 'techno' club. They play electronic music, and you might hear techno once in a while, but house, breakbeat, drum and bass (all using hip hop beats) would be more common. But if you want more top 40 type stuff, better to head elsewhere. |

Vinyl Underground is one of the best clubs in not only Busan, but in Korea. |
Oh lord, what has Busan come to when someone says that Vinyl Underground is one of the best clubs in Korea or even Busan. It is good at what it's supposed to be: a bit of a meat market that does play decent electronic music. But "one of the best clubs in Korea"? That's total and utter crap. You've clearly not gotten out of Kyungsung University area much, if ever. I'm going to go ahead and guess that you're one of the DJs there.
Anyway, OP. There is no Club Foxy in PNU(Pusan National University) area, so don't listen to QbertP.
Alexander has got the directions and description of Foxy's in Seomyeon pretty well right. It gets pretty packed after 11, it's 15000won to get in, you get a free drink with that. It's got two floors, the first floor generally plays electronic music while the second floor plays hip-hop, mostly Top40. I highly recommend drinking their Long Island Iced Teas (ask for a "Long Tea"). They'll get you absolutely wasted, if that's your thing.
Directions: Follow Alexander's directions to Judies Taehwa (Joo-dies Tae-hwa) (쥬디스태화신관) by going out Exit number 2 of the Seomyeon subway station and walking up about 2 or 3 blocks (just past the KFC and PizzaHut). When you're there, facing the building, go around the corner on your right. Walk up past the McDonalds, going two blocks up. It's just past that corner, on your left hand side, about 10-15 meters from the corner. There's a small sign at street level and you'll have to take the elevator up to the 7th floor.
However, if you want my recommendation for the current best hip hop club in Busan, I highly recommend Club Maktum. It's in the Haeundae area, across from Paradise Hotel. As well, it's 15K won to get in and you get a free drink. It's usually busy, but not totally rammed to the gills like Foxy. It just opened in mid-May and they play decent hip-hop. Top40 in there for sure, but some other stuff mixed in and it's put together well. Sometimes I feel like Foxy has more gangster thug wannabes while Maktum is a bit more classy, but that's IMO. Directions: Go out exit 5 or 3 of the Haeundae Subway station and walk straight till you are across from the beach. Cross that street and immediately go left, past the front of Hotel Novatel. When you come to the corner there (beside a sign that says MurphsII) you'll cross the street and head down to your right. You should be walking with Paradise Casino/Hotel on your right side. As long as you continue to walk straight, you will walk right into it. It has a bunch of lights strung up that are supposed to look like the 'fizz' out of the top of a champagne bottle, about 12 feet high.
PM me if you want more info about what's on in Busan on Saturday nights or where to grab a decent bite to eat.

Exactly. I've even caught live bands there from time to time. The 'techno' tag was merely to distinguish it in a broad sense from what the OP is looking for, which I totally understand, and consequently stuck with.

I obviously don't spend enough time down there. I've never even heard of it! What's the crowd like? Are we talking about a Korean club with a few foreigners mixed in, or is the place jam packed full of english teachers? Somewhere in between?
What about drink prices?
OP: TDR is spot-on. Order a "long tea" at MOST places in Busan and you'll get bang for your buck. Fuzzy Navel makes a good one at $6. They're horrible but effective! |

It's a mix, but usually 70/30 or 80/20 Korean to expatriate mix. It really depends on the night. Some nights, like long weekends and the such, there are a lot more Koreans there. As for drink prices, figure on about 6-7K for the drinks. I don't drink beer when I'm out, so I have no idea about prices for those. Bottles only, though. No draft. Check it out sometime on a Saturday night at or after midnight and it'll be jammin'. |
