Yesterday - THURSDAY, I ordered a laptop and the company said they would have it delivered in one working day - FRIDAY. I am leaving for Korea on Monday.

17" monitor (desktop replacement) with crystalbrite
2.0Mhz Intel Pentium dual core
2GB RAM, upgradeable to 4GB
DVD rewriter

665 Euro.

The laptop never arrived on Friday. They said it would arrive on Monday. I'm leaving on Monday at 9 so I cancelled the order.

Now I am angry. Will I find a similar offer ever again in my life?

ACER 7200 Gemstone Aspire.

I feel raped.

When you say 'source', what do you mean?

I think by source Spliff means the place you bought it from. If they thought they could guarantee it in 1-day, it's probably pretty close, close enough to drive to perhaps? No Saturday deliveries available?

If not, sucks.

FWIW, you can get a damn good little system once you get here for the same price, so don't be too annoyed.

Oh, and unless you really needed something portable, you can get a decent quad-core desktop (including LCD monitor) for the same price as that laptop when you get here.

I was thinking about that, but I'll just end up leaving it when I leave at the end of my contract...it's a good idea though as it probably won't be too hard to sell it minus a few hundred smackaroonies.

Quad-core seems a bit extreme, would that type of power have any practical effect unless used for games?

IF you are into serious gaming or multi-tasking... it is great.
For example, I run the BOINC application full throttle, AND download at 3000KBS AND upload at 2000KBS AND encode video AND burn DVDs at the SAME time all the while surfing the web or doing word processing.
It is also GREAT if you do any number crunching (large spreadsheets).

IF you are not a power user, a mid range dual core system with a nice (22" wide) monitor can be had for about 500k won.

An entry level dual core with a basic 17" LCD monitor for about 300k.

And split atoms, finitely define pi, decompile Excel, fold the universe, unravel DNA codes, thoroughly impress simple folks at Dave's...

Don't worry. Be happy you didn't buy an Acer. Also, a 17" notebook is less interesting than a desktop in most cases.
