|
|
So I had to open a bank account today right after I got my ARC since I get paid tomorrow. I strolled into a Shinhan and opened an account with the help of my coteacher. AFTER the paperwork was done, I was told I would be able to apply for a credit card after 3 months and my coteacher was required to be a guaranteer. Both of these things are less than pleasing to me. Also, I don't have a desire to carry my bankbook with me all time. Can't I take money out with just an ATM card?
I am looking for a bank that has decent number of locations throughout Seoul, gives me an ATM card (at least) and possibly a debit card immediately or within a week, doesn't require a guaranteer, has a good English menu on the ATM.
I don't care much about internet banking or sending money back home because I know KEB and KB do those things and I can open an account with them at a later time. Heck, maybe KB or KEB is the bank I am looking for all I know. So which bank fits my bill? Can anyone help?
KEB?
KB?
Hana?
Woori?
Thanks for the help |

you can get a check card immediately with shinhan. it is not a visa/mastercard, but it is accepted anywhere in korea (including ATMs (shinhan and other banks)). there is no charge for it, no co-signer, no wait at all. if i remember right, they printed it for me right there and i had it when i left the building. just like a check/debit card back in the states....it takes the funds out of your account immediately, and you cant overdraw or it will be rejected. hope that helps. |

didn't those new rules come in where you can't get an ATM card for the first 3 months because of all those ass hat Chinese scammers? |

I opened a bank account today at KEB bank. I was issued an ATM card immediately. This ATM card can function as a debit card in Korea. I can also take out cash here and abroad. It cannot be used as a debit card outside of Korea. While I know that there has been some problem with people being told this, it is clearly printed in English on the back of my card.
I was also set up with internet banking. The process took about 10 minutes. There was no need for anyone Korean with me. |

Did you happen to go to the branch at the Seoul Global center? I'm thinking about going there. |

I actually did it in Ulsan. I can't help you with locations in Seoul. |
