If anyone is planning a trip to Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat, I just wanted to suggest a great English speaking driver.
His name is Sam and he only charges $25/day.
Basically everyone is after your money down there and its hard to trust anyone...so I just wanted to suggest Sam. I only made a hotel reservation and did nothing else. Sam took me all around to the temples and even to great places to eat and bars. Not to mention the airport transfers. Talked about the politcs of Cambodia and he was straight up with me about his opinions and so forth. Early morning to late night...it doesn't matter. So its a great deal. The guy is really nice so I just wanted to post this to help him out. Here is his website: http://www.angkordriver-sam.com/ |

What an adventure! I went last February and just absolutely had quite a fascinating time. I hired a tuk tuk off the main street for $15 a day. It's thoughtful to offer water and lunch to your driver too as they are very poor and proving for their family so they won't eat or drink a thing until you give it to them as they're so modest. They'll appreciate this and it'll only tack on 3 to 4 dollars a day. This is not too much for the experience you get. This tuk tuk I used is a Korean Daelim motorbike with an orange 2 wheeled carriage. I actually made friends with Cambodians and would like to go spend time down there. There's lots of good honest hard working guys down there who you can depend on and who are fun to be around. The kids just mob you at the sites trying to sell all this so it get's a bit dramatic from that perspective. In a car, you might not get so much of this treatment and end up utilizing more day light to explore the temples. |

And you'd better go soon if you're going. With all the development going on there (to accomodate the tourists like us), it'll look like a 'modern' place with an old temple complex smack dab in the middle before too long. It'll look like Teotihuacan and its Wal-mart. |

when you get off the bus in Siem Reap, everyone will offer you a free ride to your hostel, but it's only as long as you'll hire them for the next day, so make sure you negotiate the price for the next day before "hiring" them for your free trip to the hostel. |

Since we are plugging tuk tuk drivers. I'd like to recommend a great guy who speaks some English, and can give you a good deal. He knows the area like the back of his hand.
Goes by the name Mr. Bee or Alex

What did you do with the tuk-tuk after you'd bought it off him? |
