Back home, we could get prescriptions for "Tylenol 3". A more powerful type of Tylenol. Without prescriptions here, does anyone know of some really strong pills for migraines or headaches?
I tried the normal Tylenol, Korean-version Tylenol, Mydrin and another Korean brand, but they arent strong enough

I have also tried Tylenol and it did nothing. Aspirin would be better and better still Ibuprophen. I think that is about the strongest over the counter medicine you can buy.
With a prescription you could get rizatriptan benzoate, which is very strong but gets rid of the migraine completely (for me at least). I don't know how readily available this is in Korea but it may be worth a try.
hope you feel better soon! |

There are several migrain meds available by prescription. However, you need to see a neurologist to get them. I know a guy that speaks near perfect English and is willing to give all the meds a try. All of the triptan drugs are available, as well as cafergot, and the beta blocker therapies. I've tried all of them and I'm one of those weird people where the side effects are so bad that I'd probably be in prison if I took them as often as I had a headache. Naproxom Sodium, aka. Aleve, 500 mg works well. I forget what koreans call it though. |

How about exercising and finding other ways to reduce your stress.
The food you choose to eat are also a factor.
Finally, drink lot's of water. |

I get frequent migraines myself. A few years back, 20/20 reported a study that showed the most effective over-the-counter cures for headaches. Here's what they reported starting with the most effective:
1) A combination of caffeine and ibuprofen (in other words, down a couple of Advil with a strong cup of coffee)
2) Caffeine alone
3) Ibuprofen alone
I usually take a couple of Advil along with a cup of coffee and it works like a charm. There's something weird about Korean ibuprofen. It doesn't seem as effective as American Advil. You can get regular American Advil at the Red Door store in Itaewon. If you need directions, let me know.
If your migraines are really severe, you may want to consider calling the International Clinic at Yonsei University Hospital and seeing the American doctor on staff there, Doctor Linton (he's an American who grew up in Korea - it's amazing to listen to someone with native level fluency in both languages). He can prescribe one of the new generation drugs for migraines. The clinic's phone number is 2228-5814. |

How about looking at the OP's original question and seeing if you can help. OP asked about over the counter medicine NOT what factors there are to consider.
Some people suffer from migraines without an obvious trigger. Some people get migraines whether they leave out certain foods or not. Lack of exercise, too much stress and certain foods are known triggers, but they are not the only causes.
Your post is not helpful, endo. |

Are you know all this how exactly?
And how is my post not helpful? What's wrong with opening up your mind to other points of view?
Do you not think that the medicating of people has potentially caused some problems? In addition, do you truely rule out the possibility that there may be more natuaral and more healthy solutions to prescription drugs? |

Taking tylenol is like spraying perfume over a pile of dung and expecting it to get better.
Three basic things that cause headaches. Stress, lack of water (too much coffee), low blood sugar.
Our bodies talk to us through symptoms. The symptom is the bodies way of telling us to make a change.
The healthier someone is the less the body has to talk to them to get them to make a change.
If you have been the type of person that ignores your body it will need to speak loudly to get you to make a change.
A migraine is like 9/10 on the loud scale for body talk . The more tylenol you take the louder your body will have to speak.
Or you could start to listen and make changes in your life. I guess you probably need to slow down, get more rest, eat better. Basically learn to get quieter and less stressed.
Most modern people live in their head, not in their body . Meds just tell the body to shut up and give strength to the mind.
Meditation teaches the mind to relax. Migraines area sign of a busy mind or two many chemicals in your system. |

endo, your post does not answer the OP's question.
Who needs you to tell people to open their mind?
I know this since i have been suffering from migraines for the last four years. I exercise regularly and I have a healthy diet. I kept food diaries and looked to see what could be a possible trigger and both myself and my doctor could find one.
I have had migraines during stressful times and peaceful times.
Migraines are not just headaches. I combine lots of things to avoid taking medicine. I find the medicine I have from the doctor to be too strong.
I use ice packs, drink ginger tea and have tried lots of holistic remedies.
I am not going to reply again, if you want to argue with me again, send me a pm...stop clogging up someone's thread. |

Wow you definitely wole up on the wrong side of the bed today.
It's a "General Discussion" forum for a reason. Thus people are allowed and encouraged to share their general opinion. And I for one try my hardest to use alternatives to PX drugs and think others should at least look at that scenerio as well.
I'm not even going to bother arguing with you anymore because you obviously have some other stuff going on and are just in an argumentative mood. |

So there are 2 choices, or youre just not sure which one it is and forget the spelling?
Also, do you remember how much it is?
Also, I think Im the only person who gets headaches AFTER exercising!
If I run or push my body hard in a type of sport/game, then I always get bad headaches. Could be the stress. In any event, exercise doesnt help me for headaches anyway. It causes them |
