I arrived on September 17th and missed out on the Chuseok holiday. Problem is, Chuseok seems to move around a bit, depending on what the moon is doing, so it's possible that I'll miss the holiday next year if it's moved after September 17th.

Any moonologists around?

We weren't very lucky this year.
Two of those three days fell on a weekend, so we only got a 3-day weekend.

Last year, we were lucky.
We got a 5-day weekend.

Next year, it will be October 29-31.
That's Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, which will give us a 4-day weekend.

It usually falls in October.
It was early this year.

I never could understand astronomical holidays.
I don't understand how Easter is set, either.

Next Year Chuseok day is Saturday October 3rd which means the chuseok period will again only be a 3-day holiday 2nd-4th October.

It's always on the 15th day of the 8th month in the lunar calendar.

I think for the next 10 years it will only fall in October twice.

The first time I came here there were about 9 days national holiday guaranteed.

My contract says '..in addition to Korean national holidays'. I thought 'Korean national holidays' was a fixed figure, 9 to be exact.

Sucks. Two years ago all the chuseok days fell on weekdays...my boss decided that we could have the other 2 working days off if we made up for it on the following Saturdays. I went to China, now I have nothing, nothing....ahhhhh, ye Gods, why do you torment me so?

There's no angry God avatar. Twisted Evil Question Exclamation Crying or Very sad

Easter is easy (first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox)... but I can't for the life of me figure out the lunar calendar!

Lunar New Year will from Sunday, January 25th, to Monday the 27th. So, if you don't work on Saturday you will have a 4 day weekend; the lucky ones will get a '10 day' weekend.

If you need even more reason to cry... the 3rd of October is another public holiday (foundation day), so for 4 public holidays, you just get 1 day off (Friday). For those of us in Public schools, I'm sure we'll get a couple of extra days...but for the poor Hagwon guys...2009 is gonna be 1 bad year Holiday-wise. (only 6 public holidays the whole year fall on weekdays!!)
