So almost 2 years ago, I accidentally left the country about 3 or 4 days late. Upon coming back to Korea on an E-2, I ran into a delay at immigration, but I got my visa, and that's why I'm here now.

However, I'm applying for an E-7, and found one reference on google that if you have even a departure violation you'll be denied. For my violation, I wasn't fined or anything, but they obviously recorded it. Is this serious? I mean, I did only find that one reference.

By working a job that's not specified by the other visas. Right now I'm supposed to be a "research assistant", but my job is calling me a marketing manager for the immigration application. Stuff like that, cooks, journalists, etc.

So, your job applies, gives their recommendation, then the "appropriate ministry" also has to look over your docs and give their recommendation. We're in the process of contacting a Korean tech ministry to get a letter from them. We have to fill out 8 pages. One of the hard parts is showing that a Korean can't do the job. Laughable, especially in terms of editing english material. Korea sparkling.

Is is possible that you could be denied? YES

Is it probable = unsure - each case is determined on it's own merits AND to your advantage, you were approved for another work visa AFTER the violation.

Yeah, someone just sent me a PM about the exact same situation and it's looking bleak. I swear to god, if I get turned down for something this stupid (especially as I'd gotten an E-2 post-facto) I'm outta here. Should I even warn my employer?

You should inform the boss or supervisor of potential issues and the full situation, and if they still want you working for them, they need to phone up immigration and have that big long talk. That's what I got my supervisor to do for the chap replacing me, due to all the crap flying around at the moment about visas in general. They need to be on the horn and in the know, not you and Google.

If it costs you the job, or if the supervisor's too lazy to do this, that should tell you all you need to know.

No worries, I was just rage posting yesterday because I'm sick of dealing with immi period. Anyway, yeah, my job's been going to bat pretty hard for me so far, so I'll tell them and leave it up to them whether or not to mention it to immi (seems like giving them any more info than the matter at hand just complicates sh*t out the gate).
