I'm trying to learn more about English grammar. I have a book called The Sturcture Of English: Studies in Form and Function for Language Teaching, by Jeanette S. DeCarrico, but I'm afraid to say, it's a little too complicated for me.

Does anyone have other book recommendations?

I'm a big fan of generative approaches to English grammar, rather than the descriptive grammars that we mainly use in the classroom. Generative models have much greater explanatory power than the traditional descriptive grammars. A good starting text is English Syntax and Argumentation by Bas Aarts. It is suitable for non-linguistics majors, though it takes a little effort to get through.
