Locks up several times a day. Not the whole computer, just IE. It goes white, and I get the check online for solutions and then restart the program/restart the program window. I usually choose the first option, but it hasn't given me a solution.
Granted, I'm using a cracked version, and a free virus detector, but is there any way you know to troubleshoot?
One possible reason:
A few weeks ago, my brother in law came to visit. He's a pretty good computer guy, but, I had three gigs of memory. I had two 512 MB sticks that were the step down from what my motherboard could handle (Thanks, Technomart sales guy who said they were full speed, and my haste to put together a new system rather than double check the Technomart guy...) and two 1 gig sticks that were the full speed. My brother in law removed the two 512 sticks while I was at work explaining to my wife that 2 gigs at full speed were better than three gigs at stepped down speed.
1. I never specifically checked in to the RAM issue, regarding speed, is it true? Is two gigs at full motherboard speed better than three gigs at one step down in speed? (unrelated to the issue at hand, but I'm still curious.)
2. I remember that one of XP's faults was that it was always ok to add more memory, but removing memory could make the system unstable sometimes. Is this still true with Vista? If I buy two more 1 gig modules at full speed, (sorry, I don't remember what my motherboard can handle at the moment, but it was pretty good 2 years ago) would that possibly solve the problem?
3. For those of you using 64 bit Vista, do you use IE32 or IE64? My computer defaults to IE32. I haven't had the time to look into why. Any thoughts?
Thanks to all, except MAC users. (joke) |
