Just add a little more sparkle, it'll pay off in the end.

It's hard to help when we don't know the source of your anger and depression.

I went through that a little while ago and the best advice I can give is to not sit in your apartment. Get out and go for hikes. hiking the mountains made me feel better. I'm not sure where you live, but get out some more and walk off the anger. Razz

Make one of those count-down things on facebook. You should just enjoy the rest of your year so you can look back and remember good things and not what a smelly, dirty, rude place you may think Korea is.

I started dipping into the depression pot too...

I think its because I'm really lonely, normally I'd have friends and roomates around me 24/7. With no one to talk to, I started talking to myself O__O

But I picked myself back up when I started interacting with some of my students. Really gives me a pick me up

yes. get out of your apartment, explore new neighborhoods, find new activities, join a gym, go for a hike, meet some new people.

if you're homesick try to cook a homemade meal, get some foods at costco, buy some English books and magazines, watch movies you like, etc.

keeping busy makes time fly by and you will make great memories of korea.

definitely get out and do things. try to plan a regular event every week with your friends, like movie night, bowling, or just a long dinner. i'd plan for something in the middle of the week, like wednesday, it'll break up the monotony of the school week and give you something to look forward to on monday mornings (when normally you're just thinking about how long it is until friday!)

Funny that you are so critical of others, but so lovely in the breast feeding thread. Rolling Eyes

I'm usually not critical of others but CF JUST got here and is complaining already about the honeymoon phase. Hello, you gotta be here for a while for that to end, it doesn't end after a week.

And mind your own business. Are you CF's mother? Do you want to breast feed him? If the answer is no, then you know where you can go....

Well, think of it like a marriage where you expect that Korea will somehow complete you. She is not quite what you thought she was. You have to somehow find a way to accept her the way she is. You don't have to be married forever and return home at some point, so remember that. The culture may work for the locals, but maybe not for you. It works for me sometimes.

I am grateful to be a North American, I am proud to be one in many ways, thought there are many things that are horrible as well. I like the work atmosphere, in general, back in the U.S., but the hard work I've done over here will have served me well upon my return. You can learn many things from another culture. Find what you can learn. Most of us get annoyed with many things in Korea including the students and adults. Some of my students said to me, "Teacher, I hate Korea". I was surprised. I just commented basically, "You don't really hate Korea, you're just tired of not having much time to relax and play and be children." Koreans get frustrated with Korea. Keep that in mind.
Many Koreans have a mixture of love and hate for their country. I think the country has tonnes of potential if they can get a sane, honest government in there to do something.
