I've been looking at making the move to Korea for some time and have recently seen some interesting jobs in Ilsan. My initial plan was Seoul itself but just wondering about your thoughts or experiences of Ilsan? Sorry if this seems a bit vague, but im after any information at all really as long as its relative to living and teaching in Ilsan.
Thanks. |

It's a nice place to live and it's not that far from Seoul. Less than 1 hour by subway.
The hagwons in Ilsan have a bad rep on this forum though, so be warned. |

I lived there for a year and it`s a nice place to live and you have pretty much everything you need. Ilsan is a big place though. I lived near Madu and it only took 25 mins on the red buses to get to the city center
There`s been many threads on this subject anyways

Agreed. I'm living in Madu, next to Western Dom. Pretty cool place. I don't feel the need to go to Seoul for stuff at all. |

Ilsan is a wonderful place to live. We have La Festa, Western Dom, Kintex, Lake Park, and, drumroll please- Costco.
Just be careful where you decide to work. Post the name of the name of the school on here before you sign. Many of us have had good and bad experiences at hagwons in Ilsan. Let us give you a heads up before you sign. It could save you a lot of aggravation. |

Well, Seoul has more jobs. It is harder in Ilsan to get a job that doesn't work you a lot. Though I love Ilsan, I would rather have a more relaxed job in Seoul. Many of the jobs do push you a lot over here. There isn't as much variety over here. However, if you do get a great job, it's great to be here. |

The people in Ilsan play out like high school stereotypes. Jocks, nerds, tramps etc.
Go to Seoul and meet some interesting people, and make some decent money. |

Ilsan is very nice and prefer it way over Seoul, but I seem to be different than most of the young-ones here (I'm only 32). The air is much cleaner, there are parks (Lake Park), lots of shopping (decent for westerners too, like Costco), bars, restaurants, and great transit. My younger brother lived in Seoul (Mok-dong) and the apartments were smaller, dirtier, and almost no parks anywhere.
For me Seoul is my weekend getaway and I love it that way, if I lived in Seoul I would never get out Presently i live about 15mintues north of Ilsan in Gyoha, Paju and that sux! Even though it is REALLY green, lotsa parks, but no social life, restaurants and shopping.
Anyway, Ilsan is great but so is Seoul in their own ways, each offers the teacher a different lifestyle. |

Thanks for the replies so far, ill try and ill PM the schools if thats ok, as i know they sometimes read on here. I guess i wanted to know what its like in comparison to Seoul for entertainment, shopping, markets, going out etc... as most the info you come across is about seoul or Busan mainly. |
