www.nuutbook.com/

It's reasonably priced compared with other e-ink readers. 297,000, but it doesn't seem to support .pdf. Also, it has a 6" screen, quite small I think.

I can't find a decent review on it.

Probably priced so reasonably because it doesn't support PDF. Why would anyone sell an e-book reader that doesn't support PDF?

For reading plain text novels, there are a few other formats that can do the job.

For manuals, textbooks etc. then I prefer pdf format, but given that the size of the screen is only 6" it is probably unsuitable for those types of books anyway.

I'd personally wait a little while for this tech to mature and become more widespread. The prices companies are asking for these things are ridiculous right now.

Agreed, you'd have to be normally spending around 40,000 a month on books to justify buying this device. Useful for travelling in certain countries, but then again books in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos are usually cheap, swapped or read for free.

This just looks to be a rebadged STAReBOOK/Netronix/Cybook etc.

I've had one for over a year now and mostly its fantastic. Unofficially you can flash them to become a bookeen Cybook Gen 3, meaning that you can have PDF support I believe.

The 6" screen might seem small but its designed to replace a paperback book, so the size is perfect for that.

Being eink the battery life is great, and the quality is amazing. Downside is that it take about half a second to "flip" pages.

Of course, I havent tried the korean firmware thats part of this, but as I said, I've been running a STAReBOOK (same hardware as this) running cybook firmware with great success.

One of the features they are promoting with the Korean nuutbook is it's quick 'flip page' rate; I don't know how fast it is though.

The newer style "viziplex" screens are supposed to be a bit faster with page transitions. My unit is one of the first, with the previous generation screen and only 64mb RAM. Still, the screen changes are easy to live with, you just get used to it. And 64mb RAM is plenty when you are dealing with text files.

Yes, I agree some of the newer units look very flashy thou, but for W297,000 this NUUTBook seems to be the cheapest of the lot.

Wow. I'm not holding my breath though. Also, the technology behind these devices is changing quite rapidly. You buy something now and six months from now it's...

cheaper...

..then it's lighter, faster page refreshes...

..then the screen size gets bigger, it has compatability with a wider range of formats...

...then it's in color....shwing!!

It mightn't have been a bad idea to get the Sony Reader when it first came out though, people kept expecting something would supercede it within a few months - it took a while for a competitor to come along and even then the Sony Reader is still competing with the best.

Oh,

Ordering from NUUT seems to be very easy. I just bought a cover for my STAReBOOK (same hardware as NUUT) from them. Paid and it arrived the next morning. Easy to deal with.

Just send them an email to the address found on their site and, at least for me, they responded in decent English and were a pleasure to deal with.

They also have the units in stock at the moment at W297,000 inc shipping.

Now if only they'll pay me to say nice things about them Smile
