This is NOT a thread about being pissed of at KOrea,

This is a thread about being pissed off at many of the foreigners who live in Korea, specifically the ones that constantly bitch and complain about it.

1) we all chose to come here, there was a reason for that. If it was the money, free apartment etc, we chose to come here

2) its a foreign country, they speak a different language here, they have different customs. For many of the things that they have "wrong" by our standards, they have gotten a number of things right. They have no mortgages to speak of. Parents pay for a house for thier kids in thier 50's, so they have 30 years to save money for a house. They pay for the HOUSE, and not the bank interest. This is better than a 20 year old trying to get into a place being hosue poor and have no life. They respect thier elders, they worship thier kids.

3) Why do you expect everyone you meet to speak english. DO you speak korean. NO, Korean is as hard as english to learn, and half of you who bitch know very little korean, and could not handle the dedication it would take to learn it, it would cut too much into your free time, and drinking time. Plus why would you learn it, its not like you will ever NEED to speak korean, especially while you live here, and even more so whenyou leave.

4) You people come here to get a better deal/new experience form your own life, and they you trash talk everything about the new place. Many of you life to talk about how much better stuff is back home. THEN GO BACK!!!!

5) and SOME koreans do resent us being here, its a fact of life. They are a little sad and depressed that English is more prevalent and that they need to learn english to better themselves in the global world. They people selling your gorceries will never get a better job, and will never learn english and they resent that they NEED to know englihs to advance in any job. I would resent it to. As a canadian I have always hated that I need to know french to be guaranteed nearly any job in my field.

NOW to working issues.

1) our jobs are to do what our bosses tell us.
2) it is not our call to agree or disagree with what we are told, it is our job to DO what we are told. This is called the employer/employee relationship.
3) yes, many korean parents use thier kids as a show off piece, and many of the thinsg we do for our job will never make sense, have any actual value, and will go right in the trash after the mark is bragged about for a day.
4) if you dont like this you always have the option to quit, ask for a letter of release, or tell them you cant do what they ask and that they really need to get a new teacher. we call this THE HIGH ROAD.
5) our bosses are idiots? Id like to see you guys deal with even half of the crap they deal with on any given day and not have your head explode.
6) many of you come in, sit down at meetings, bitch about everything, tell the bosses what they need to do to make you happy, and then how do you thank them? you are out the door EVERY DAY.......... ONE MINUTE after the bell has rung and your kids are out the door.

7) too many of you have no idea what a proper work ethic is, and you have a huge feeling of english superiority. YOU constantly bitch about what the Koreans do to us, and never actually look at what you have inside that makes you feel like you ( as a foreigner) are so much better than they are.

Summary
I freely chose to come to korea as we all did, and I like living here. I like having a decent apartment paid for by my boss, I like having to pay ONLY the utilities. I like a pension at the end, I like a severeance month at the end. I like a cab whenever I need it. I like having cheap decent food within walking distance. I love having most conveniences and staples from back home within reach. I like being able to get two seats together at a movie theater and not have to worry about showing up early sit in a theater for 50 minuts to ensure I get a good seat.

Why dont you guys stop complainingabout all of the bad shit that happens here and realise that it is people like you that reinforce the very stereotype that you hate. Most of you do NOTHING to respect the Korean culture, yet you think they should bend over backwards to respect us.

WOW no wonder Koreans think many foreigners are arrogant pricks.

"people wound this tight probably shouldnt be teaching younger children"

ha ha

so funny I nearly forgot to laugh.

Your logic is flawed though since unlike many of you who came for the PAYCHEQUE I actually came to Teach younger children. I work in a school of 200 kids, and in the 2 months I have been there nearly all Two hundred of them know me and always say my name as I walk by and try to give me a hug. They do not do this with many of the other teachers.

I have not taught a kid yet who didnt love me and didnt want me to continue teaching them when the classes were shuffled. I can separate any unhappiness I have with Korea, or with bitching coworkers from the job that I came here to do, and love doing.

do you have naything intelligent to add to the discussion, or are you going to make another moronic unfounded comment?

So far, One intelligent supporter, two moron funnymen.

Are we gonna go 2 and 2, or 3 and 1?

HOT DAMN.... another newbie has it all figured out.

90 day wonders never cease to amaze me.

Reality should rear its ugly head sometime in your near future. There is a good reason why our respective embassies have warnings about teaching in Korea and they are not based in racial arrogance.

Let's see if you still sing the same tune after a year or 5 and the honeymoon is finished.

.

Lol, and the ignorance of others never ceases to amaze me.

I have lived here for three years and am married to a Korean.

I have only been at my PRESENT job for 2 months.

Oh, and YOU have it all figured out after that long do you. Korea sucks, the people suck, life sucks? Why are you still here then? HONESTLY why are you still here? Is it to bang the Korean women, is it to get the pay check for a short workday?

And my comments to you would still be the same, if you are that unhappy then GO BACK HOME.

Did you read my original post at all? Its the idiotic posters and co workers that get to me. I am also cozy as a bug in a rug, I even said in my post that I LOVED working and living here. This is not a NEW environment, its been my environment for 3 years now.

If you don't like hearing foreigners bitching about genuine grievances in this country, then maybe you should go home.

People have the right to complain as much as they want. If you don't want to hear it, don't hang out with those people.

People have the right to live where they want. If they choose to live here, it is not your business to tell them to go home.

You are putting yourself on a pedestal thinking you are better than these other people. This is an inner need of your ego. Everybody has their own life to live with their own problems. You should carry on with your life and not worry about others.

I like the "our job is to do what our bosses tell us" bit.

No, our job and duties are in the contract.

I understand what you are talking about. Some of the complaining isn't necessary. But, I've been here for much more than 3 years....and a lot of the complaining I hear has some merit. XXXXXX school doesn't follow the contract, etc. Thus, it helps me avoid some of the pitfalls that are here. Yet...I agree...some of the complaining is a little annoying at times...

Don't forget that the OP isn't talking about everyone on this message board. The OP is talking only about the ones who constantly complain about Korea.

Still...that isn't what this thread is going to to be about. It's going to be about how another guy who is new to Korea (and this message board) attempts to share his secrets of enlightenment, which isn't really enlightenment. And because he himself comes off like such an arrogant bastard (even if he does make a notable point or two), he'll be viciously attacked.

I predict this thread will reach 7+ pages,

OR

get pulled by the mods in less than three days.
