Just want to know if it's OK to install Office XP (2003) on a machine running Windows Vista (home edition).

Cheers in advance.

Yes it's compatible.

I'd go as far as to say 99% of XP software is compatble with Vista, in my experience it's been 100%

To spliff: Maybe he has a legit copy he wants to use, or isn't that great with pc's (clearly Wink ) and just wants a program he can use rather than trying to learn 2007 (with which excel and powerpoint can take a bit of time) or maybe he just like 2003...because Wink

MS Office is MS Office. It's a stand-alone piece of software which is compatible with any version of MS Windows.

The funny thing in Korea about whether to use 2003 or 2007 is the attitude of my Korean boss and co-workers. Because I installed Office 2007 on my work PC, and a few of the other foreign teachers PC's, they looked on with wonder and suspicion. Like installing recent software was a really avant-garde thing to do.

I find Koreans to be really behind the curve with software. They stick to the old versions for years!! Jeez, I saw Windows 98 in a PC bang just 2 years ago!!

Cheers for the advice. The reason I asked about MS Office 2003 is that i already had a copy at home and the PC I use at school is also running that version however I decided to try 2007. Downloaded and installed MS Office Ultimate 2007 tonight.

Just remember to save files as .doc and NOT the default .docx, etc.

The latter are NOT reverse compatible with other versions of OFFICE.

Cheers for that advice ttompatz. That was actually one of my concerns about installing MS Office 2007. Quite often i create PPT's at home to use in the classroom and I wondered whether there would be any issues running a file on the 2003 version which was created in the 2007 version.

yes just save as Ppt, not Pptx. The prog may warn you that some of the features won't be available (shadows and 3-d effects), but it's nothing major.

If you need those features in 2007, then install the 2007 viewer on the target computer and you'll be set.

I'm old school. I like MS office 2003. I know how to use 2007 but I still prefer 2003.

Same reason I bought a used laptop that had windows xp rather than buy a new laptop with vista. Preference Smile
