I am trying to buy some Korean won with my Canadian dollars and I'm just wondering where you guys recommend I exchange.
I have 3 options.
1) KEB in Canada
2) at a currency exchange booth at the Incheon airport
3) at a domestic bank in Korea
I thought you NETs would be the best people to ask because undoubtedly some of you guys exchange quite frequently.
thanks. |

Buy your won IN Korea. Any other option is just a bad idea so you can take #1 off of your list.
#2 and #3 are the same option. The exchange counters at the airport in Incheon ARE the banks and they have the specific bank brand on them. You get the same rate at the counter that you would at the same branded bank in the city.
If you are only bringing a few hundred, change it at the booth in Incheon (save you hunting later and they will speak English).
IF you have more than a few hundred then change 2-3 hundred at the airport and do the rest at your convenience at a bank. (remember that hundred dollar bills don't take up much room - $1000 is only 10 pieces of paper BUT the largest bill in Korea is about $10 so converting $1000 to won means a stack of 100 bills.)
