My school gave me a raise... but nobody told me! Rolling Eyes

I didn't find out until yesterday when I got my pay slip and noticed my monthly salary is now W100,000 more than EPIK scale. I asked my co-teacher about it and she didn't know anything. After making enquiries, she came back and told me the principal decided I should get a raise. Very Happy

They ddin't give you a raise they noticed that they hadn't been paying one of your benefits.

Now find out which one like rural allowance or extra school pay and get your back pay.

I think the Korean language reflects the Korean people.

Before the modernization of Korean by King Se-Jong, everything was in the old chinese style. Those characters are so diverse and full of meaning that a just couple lines could be all that's needed in a letter.

Basically, there is a lot of reading between the lines in Korea. That's why so many people here are so tuned to details. They never ask each other for clarification. English speakers are very direct because that's just the way our language is. Most of the time, what you see is what you get.

So what am I trying to say....

It's annoying as hell

I didn't think they could either. However, last week the school wanted my to photocopy my bankbook 'information' page and it seems the school is now making the deposits instead of the local, school district office; and my new pay slip comes from the school not the school district.

Agreed. This is the more likely explanation.

Here's the reason why. I just received this e-mail today. BTW, how serious is the threat in #1????

"Hello EPIK teachers,

I hope all is well.

I would like to inform you that some of the EPIK policy and rules have recently changed since 2008year

I have attached two files one for with the changed salary level information and the other one for regulation for you.

1) It has been brought to the attention of the Jeju POE that some EPIK teachers are engaging in illegal teaching. Your contract states very clearly that "privates" are not allowed. Please be aware that if caught breaking the law, you will be instantly dismissed and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

2) EPIK has done away with the province allowance, however, the pay scale has been raised 100,000 won. That means you will be given the salary as same as before.

3) rural area allowance : If you would teach in isolated Island such as Udo, Chujado or Gapado, you will be give an extra allowance, rural area, 100,000won every month.

If you have any questions, please email or call me.

Sincerely,
Ria Kim"
