Hi, I'm about to accept a public school job. It sounds great but I've only talked to a recruiter so far, not the school itself.
Please give me some tips for not getting screwed over by the recruiter as far as getting everything that he says I'm going to get.
I'm at a haekwon now and want to leave.
I've heard public schools are pretty reliable. Also any other advice about working in a public school would be great.
Also I have an e-2 visa so what is the process for leaving one school and going to another one on teh same visa?
Thanks |

Your biggest concern and priority should be securing a letter of release from your current employer. After that I would ask to visit any prospective school before signing a contract. |

Does your current director know you are looking elsewhere and will be leaving soon? You won't be working on the same visa since it's sponsored by the school so you may need to plan a trip back home to get a new one (not sure if visa runs are still effective). Just secure the release letter before accepting any other offer. Also, work out pay issues like pension or owed airfare with your school before leaving. Good luck. |

not all public schools are the same, (read the recent ps vs hagwon thread)
you should talk to your coordinator at the PS (they should interview you, by phone, I believe)
also, if I were you, I would ask the contact info (phone or e-mail) of the current FT there, if there is one) and ask that person the questions you really want to ask.
I corresponded by e-mail with the FT at the PS I came to.. and he was quite helpful, I would imagine almost every FT leaving would be the same (and honest in a way the Koreans, whether recruiter or coordinator will not be, not to mention looking at things from a similar prism) |
