|
|
Anyone remember back in 2000, Microsoft released ME and quickly released XP as an apology for their colossal mistake?
It looks like they're doing that again with Windows 7. Vista has made a lot of people very angry and has done significant damage to the Microsoft brand, in the same vein as ME did. I upgraded to ME for a short time only to migrate back to 98se because it was a great OS from the get-go. ME had nothing going for it.
So, what has everyone heard about Windows 7? Do you think it will be a Vista killer? Who here is also holding onto their superior XP operating systems until Windows 7 comes out (June of 2009 supposedly)?
The expectations of Windows 7: (Lifted from here)
Easier. Windows 7 will make it easier for users to find and use information. Local, network and Internet search functionality will converge. Intuitive user experiences will be further advanced. Automated application provisioning and cross-application data transparency will be integrated.
More secure. Windows 7 will include improved security and legislative compliance functionality. Data protection and management will be extended to peripheral devices. Windows 7 will advance role-based computing scenarios and user-account management, and bridge the inherent conflicts between data protection and robust collaboration. It will also enable enterprise-wide data protection and permissions.
Better connected. Windows 7 will further enable the mobile workforce. It will deliver anywhere, anytime, any device access to data and applications. It will enable a robust ad-hoc collaboration experience. Wireless connectivity, management and security functionality will be expanded. The performance and functionality of current and emerging mobile hardware will be optimized. The multiple device sync, management and data protection capabilities in Windows will be extended. Finally, Windows 7 will enable flexible computing infrastructures including rich, thin and network-centric models.
Lower cost. Windows 7 will help businesses optimize their desktop infrastructure. It will enable seamless OS, application and data migration, and simplified PC provisioning and upgrading. It will further efforts towards non-disruptive application updating and patching. Windows 7 will include improved hardware- and software-based virtualization experiences. And it will expand the PC self-help and IT Pro problem resolution diagnostics in Windows. |

In what crazy world are you living in where XP is "superior" to Vista? I've used both and Vista is MUCH better than XP was. since I started using Vista, I've hated going back to XP machines at work or when my old computer is acting up. Vista is a good OS. |

I'm not saying that Vista is garbage, I'm just saying that it's unsalvagable. For it to be a truly great OS they'd have to rewrite half the code. As it is, while you may like Vista: it isn't worth the expense. There isn't enough to warrant an upgrade from XP.
I've spent some time with Vista and some time with XP (albeit not a whole lot of time with Vista); and I'm more happy with XP because Vista doesn't offer enough to draw me in.
That and I've heard 10x more bad things about it than good things. If I upgrade to Vista, my gaming performance will be dashed as well as my usability performance. I like how XP only takes a minute to load up, and how it only takes a few seconds to retain it's balance after a program crash (having a dual core processor makes that possible; from what I heard, not with Vista).
If you have Vista, at the very least, you don't get nearly as much out of your hardware as you should. On top of that, Vista has a history of errors and bad programming.
What is so slick about Vista other than the presentation that keeps you roped in? |

Im sticking to XP til windows 7, by which time i will be due for a new laptop.
The biggest reason is that my laptop runs XP really well now, but im not prepared for the performance drop i will get just to gain some transparent windows and a bit of OSX look a like photo crap.
we will see if Win7 can do a good job and really change how we use computers.
I think a huge hurdle for Vista was the fact of driver support and app support that took a few months cos no one had anything ready for it.
Windows 7 wont suffer from the same problem as drivers and SW will be compatible from what ive read.
Time for innovation not upgrades i think. |

Vista is fine. I got it on Day 1 via an upgrade disc, it has been running perfectly fine 24/7 for the past year and a half. Windows 7 is going to have some worth while improvements though, they're recoding it for multiple cores. |

Desktop I still use xp, my new laptop lacks drivers for xp o I went with Vista.
The nice thing about Windows 7 is that it will be optimized for multi core architecture. |

It has been fashionable to diss Vista on the internet since it's release. Internet sheep just follow what others are saying without really looking into anything themselves.
Vista loads faster than XP. On my machine, from pressing the power button, I'm up at the desktop within 20 seconds. XP could never do that.
Vista has waaay better recovery after program crashes. I've never, not once, had to use my reset button since installing Vista 1.5 years ago.
I've used both XP and Vista extensively. Vista is a significant improvement over XP. Especially the x64 flavor. |
